Celestial remains undefeated

After 4 league games and 2 cup games, Celestial Fury's record remains unblemished. They have faced Red Robins, the Philippine Cup champs no less, in their opening match, and never looked back. Plowing their way over Rynzer Force, Negros Slashers, and Queens Coast during the next matches. The team meanwhile demolished their opponents during the cup tournament.

Celestial's coach Phil Jackson commended everyone for a gob well done, but reminded the team to never be complacent. "We will not stop until we get first. Our goals remain the same. Be the cup champions and the league champions at the same time."

Critics grinned at this idea saying that is impossible to do so. Being in the top league in the country no less, the team will face hard opposition no matter what.

Coach Phil just smirked, "O Rly?" To be honest, we have been taking the games lightly. We haven't peaked yet, as we have new players in the team, and we are still looking for the right combinations on the floor. But make no mistake, we will PWN!"

Tanas, Corneja Parade

After the league defeat against the ARCHERS at home, people had wondered if Team Polydozel's chemistry has been in turmoil after a series of player buyouts and firing... that it affected a lot and will have a hard time in coping on.

...it seems that this team has surprised the critics once again.

Team Polydozel displayed a strong performance against the Batangas Blades as they won by the score of 126-96 at the PAL Arena.

It was a near perfect game wherein both teams didn't have that much turnovers and strong offensive play by both teams allured the fans to their delight.

"It was like playing a scrimmage... everybody did good against fouls and turnovers, despite the good defensive and offensive efforts." Polydozel Coach responded.

The great play of the Blades were outshined, however by the duo from Team Polydozel, Nolie Corneja and Melencio Tanas, who had a combined point total of 72.

Melencio Tanas, who played in only 24 minutes, garnered a whopping 40 points, shooting almost at 60% on the field, shooting 6 threes, 4 assists, and flirting in the double-double category with 9 rebounds. Nolie Corneja on the other hand, played 21 minutes and scored 32 points, shooting 48%, with 3 threes, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Simeon Tongson, Mervyn Jamora, and Mark Tacdoro were posting double digit rebounds for their team, and out of all players, only Hernando Nellas got caught up with 3 fouls.

"Everybody was in the rhythm." says Mark Tacdoro, who also had 10 points along with his 17 rebound performance. "The Blades can't compete with our wing plays."

Tanas and Corneja's performance skyrockets them into the top 10 scoring leaders, where Jhoaden Nordista is leading with 26.6 points per game.

"They're mostly a rebounding-defensive team. if they have their rebounders playing really well on the game, they have a chance in winning... The scoring department is most handled by Nolie and Lencio... If one of them played well, they'll consider it that will win... what more if both of them played well?" says one league coach.

Team Polydozel plays on Tuesday against the hosts, Demonix. And with that statement, all we have to do now, is to wait and see if that much is true.

Demonix can't keep up with team Polydozel

Another good team effort by team Polydozel was displayed last night, as they won against Demonix by the score of 99-66 at the Tartarus. Simeon Tongson was in foul trouble that night but that doesn't stop them from winning the game.

Hernando Nellas leads the game with 19 points, shooting 50%, 5 rebounds , and a block. His first good game since the start of the season. five more players are in double figures.

"Simeon was struggling... and we had to make low post plays because Simeon's passing from down low is missing. Good thing Nellas played well today." the coach said.

Mervyn Jamora scored 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, despite struggling also in foul trouble, and Cirilo Magoncia scored 13 points in 13 minutes.

"(Magoncia) had a good run... scoring and passing relentlessly when he is playing... showing some good progress, and seems he's fit for a starting role." added by coach.

Tongson, however, managed to get 8 rebounds, an assist, and a block, during his 22 minutes of play.

"Demonix frustrates my offense with their defense." says Tongson, who averages 7 points, almost 13 rebounds, an assist, a steal, almost a block, and 32 minutes... in 6 games.

While Demonix focused on Tongson's play, others managed to find space and produce points, and out-rebounds them, making 53 rebounds from Demonix's 37.

"Nellas has this put-backs that are simply unstoppable." says the Demonix coach. "Once he gets the ball, he thrusts it with ease.

Nicanor Vidal is the only man who scored in double figures (11), as team Polydozel matched them with good defense. The total of 28 of 82 shots is a proof.

With their win, team Polydozel solely occupied the second spot, next to the undefeated DE LA SALLE GREEN ARCHERS in the Great 8 division, and tied at 3rd, with Team XV - C and speed detergent in the league overall, while Demonix is fighting very early out in the relegation zone. and tied with TimeBombs for the 14th place overall in the league.

the boy team heavily pounded

the boy team can't do anything as team Polydozel literally manhandled the boy team and team Polydozel takes the win by the score of 66-101, held at the PAL Arena.

Nolie Corneja played for 25 minutes, scoring 23 points, 7 rebounds, and shooting 10 of 19 shots.

"Nolie coming from the bench letting others play first is a good strategy as can analyze the game first before doing his job." says one Polydozel spectator. "Nolie is an analyst type of player. Besides his all-around plays."

Simeon Tongson struggled the whole game as he only produced 3 points, shooting 1 of 6 shots. But he backed that up with 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block in 30 mins of play.

Melencio Tanas was the second high point man with 19 points, as he, and Corneja shared the 2 position.

"Nolie usually plays forward." says Tanas. "But in this game, the coach decided to share his playing time in my position to give some playing time to other forwards. we really need Gervil's defensive plays in this game."

The game was fast paced. As both managed to make running an offensive motif in the game. the Corneja-Tanas tandem victimized another team in their new league.

the boy team used a fast paced, big man option play. passing around to pass up the time and to give the big men time to get to their position. the Polydozel knew that.

"We didn't act right away. even if they pass and pass... once Orville Miranda gets the ball, that's the time that we get to action. it's like letting them give the ball to the big guy."

Orville Miranda scored only 18 points at 15 rebounds, as team Polydozel displays good 2-3 zone. Enough to stop the boy team's highest game scorer.

Tanas overshadowed by 2-point loss

Melencio Tanas had a balance of giving up a good and bad game.

He scored 26 points, shooting 9 of 12 shots, with 2 of 3 shots from the outside, 6 for 8 on the charity stripe, in 19 minutes of ballgame.

But, also, he struggled with 5 fouls.

Playing MVP-like performances is not in Tanas' fashion... as he was formerly second stringer to the veteran Nolie Corneja. Thanks to the foul situation, the scoring record by Jeremy John Mison is still up.

"I wasn't running to break anything... right now we are focused on winning... to try to be on top as much as possible." says Tanas.

Winning was not on their hands tonight, though. As they were beaten by Team XV - C by a game thriller score of 127-125 at the Rockwell center.

Anthony Quicoy scored 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Santos Juele put up 23 points and 17 rebounds. XV - C turned rebounds into points as Polydozel was on a wild shooting spree.

Team Polydozel played full court defense from the get-go. where they lead in the first quarter by reaching the 40-point mark early.

"We knew that they'll be tired somehow from the end of the first period until the end of the game." says the XV - C coach. "They were also playing our game. So we had an easy time defending them even if they defended hard on us."

"Fatigue was a factor in this game" Says one basketball analyst. "Both team played high tempo offense and Polydozel gambled on playing up-tempo defense and offense. they didn't slow down 'til the end, and XV - C took advantage of it."

Nellas injured as Polydozel wins

Hernando Nellas put up just 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, at 6 steals in 27 minutes before suffering an injury in 2:49 minutes of play in the third quarter. after being caught in a foul on the game.

The big factor here is that the bench players, outshone almost all the star players. being everywhere on the court, giving unbelievable numbers, and walling the offensive side of Rehab Center.

Cirilo Magoncia is almost a quadrouple-double magnet, posting up 7 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and an unpredicted 9 steals in 39 minutes of play. Mervyn Jamora, the starting point guard, didn't play that long as he was forced to be benched after committing 2 fouls in the first quarter.

"[Magoncia] played very well... even better than what i usually produce... my early foul trouble gave him an opening... even if he scored only 7, there are others who can cope the points category." says Jamora.

And he was very right.

Gervil Tidalgo exploded for 26 points and 7 rebounds. Hipolito Guarnes, Tidalgo's relievee, and team Polydozel's new found gem, only played 18 minutes, and scored 8 points. Tidalgo's perimeter onslaught and sluggy defending simply forgot Guarnes' unrealistic game after making poorer shot after shot.

"Gervil really knows when to shine right." says one audience.

And so was Cybel Sumaylo. who posted his first double-double in the season, giving the win a 14 point, 20 rebound performance. it is Sumaylo's 9th game, but everyone thought that it was only just his 2nd or 3rd. As his profession to the team is just "back-up" Center/Forward.

"Cybel is a backup of Tongson's backup... do you know how that feels?" says the team coach. "If you are like that for a long time, so as anything else, you'll be tired, and you have to show to the people that you have learned enough and it's time to let yourself be seen. ...I've seen him..." he says it grinningly.

well, whatever the coach's plans are, maybe it's for the team's best and I have high hopes that this team is one of the most unpredictable ones in the country. And that's scary for one person.... what more if it's for a team?

Mandaue Selection wins 12th straight league game

Rookie Egbert Somosierra scored for 48 pts and grabbed 20 rebounds as the Mandaue Selection mangled the Loyola Hts BC Team. Mr. Somo was ably backed up by Jules Salmayor (27 pts, 22 rebs) who also have a 20-20 performance. The ploy of coach Jack O. to use 2 PGs worked perfectly as Nicolas and Aglipay each had 7 assists each. Lito Guevarra led Loyola Hts with 29 pts.

Notes: NT member Masuecos was rested by the coaching staff and will be available in the selections cup match.

Tanas Storm

Melencio Tanas' rampage continues as his double-double (30 points, 10 rebounds) ushered their team in a win against Caltleyans, held at the PAL arena.

Tanas was rated 8.5 (MVP of the game), his third above 8 rating in the season.

"I didn't even threw a three ball." says Tanas. "playing fast ball doesn't require outside shots. I just drove and made perimeters and luckily everyone else had a fine game as well!"

Mervyn Jamora scored 23 points, Nolie Corneja with 22 points, Cybel Sumaylo surprised Caltleyans with a 19 point, 16 rebound performance, Gervil Tidalgo with 19 points, and Mark Tacdoro with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

With the three players (Tanas, Tacdoro, and Sumaylo) playing big minutes, the usual Hipolito Guarnes (10 points), Simeon Tongson (6 points, 7 rebounds in 14 minutes), and Cirilo Magoncia (4 points, 4 assists) were force benched due to foul troubles (Guarnes, Tongson) and groin stress (Magoncia).

With Magoncia's condition, it's acceptable. 'Mags' was in heat lately as he erupted for 7 points, 6 assists in 5 games. As his game time rose up, his conditioning was deteriorating.

"We never expected his game to go up this quickly, so we took advantage on it... it now came with a toll... so we were just making sure that he plays well in the long run... we have to give him rest." says the coach.

PAL arena also took renovations as they added 100+ seats today. It is expected to be done before the next home game.

"It is the primary concern, the fans are suddenly increasing... thanks to the promotion!" says the Polydozel GM. "We signed a partnership contract with the arena owner as part of the proposal to help expand the horizons of both parties. i think both of us will benefit well with this move and we wish for a more prosperous future."

Celestial on a 13-0 streak

The Furys emerge as the team to beat in the Philippine League I.1, demolishing teams en route to a 13-0 win loss record, besting championship contenders Jubas Beasts, San Miguel Beermen, Air 21 Express, and Ateneo Jologs.

"We've had blowouts, but also close games." Said rookie sensation Brian Olandria. "I think these games will help us prepare for our Cup and Championship run."

The Furys have been averaging a whopping .520 FG clip for the season, an all-time best record for a team in the Philippines, with 8 players averaging in double digits.

"Their run has been superb so far." Said Quinito Henson, a basketball analyst. "They are slowly becoming the most successful team in Philippine Basketball History."

The Celestial management, meanwhile, has expanded their stadium to 7190 seats, the biggest arena so far in the country. And are brewing up some surprises for the upcoming League and Cup championships.

Sources say that they are planning to sign an undisclosed superstar to boost their game. No contracts have been handed out yet, but everyone says that it will be big. The team has been rumored to be freeing up some cap space to accomodate the aforementioned player.

The fans are ecstatic with this development.

Beast Unleashed

Everyday is a normal day at the Hope, the home arena for Jaguarz!!! arena personnel line up for the standard procedures, stalls open for customers, air-conditioning is same as the other home games they hosted.

So maybe it isn't in the place, how about the time and date?

There's nothing special either... just maybe approx. 5 of the home audience is having their birthday that day.

These questions can be answered, but everyone on the arena are still puzzled on how, did the Polydozel giant Simeon Tongson managed a triple double.

Tongson played 39 minutes while gaining 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 steals. The Polydozel center is really everywhere on the court. He even managed to throw down a three pointer.

"[Tongson] never really thought about offense... even though he is a skilled offensive mammoth, he really relies his game on defense." says Sev Sarmienta, basketball analyst and former commentator. "I admire people who give defense the most priority.. because not all have that kind of mentality."

"He is our core... without him, we wouldn't be able to function this well... even if we move freely, Simeon can make it work out... offense or defense." Says All-star Nolie Corneja.

Corneja, by the way, isn't a contender for the all-star spot as his other teammate, Melencio Tanas managed to get the 2-guard votes in this season's unofficial All-star balloting. The official balloting takes place on march 19.

"Lencio is an explosive player, and i'm old!" Corneja says amusingly... "I really have no problem about it.. I'm proud to have an all-star as a teammate"

Mervyn Jamora and Tongson also are favorites in the coming all-star game. While Hipolito Guarnes is still pending prior to the official balloting. If Guarnes managed to play the all-star weekend, he will be the first Polydozel rookie to be in the all-star selection.
