Another story: Ellis is pitching on May 1, 1974 against the Reds, before the game, tells his teammates he's going to hit every batter. First batter: Pete Rose, HBP. Next two: Joe Morgan and Dan Driessen. Plunked. Aims at Tony Perez, Perez ducks away from all of them and draws a walk. Throws two pitches at Johnny Bench's head and gets pulled. Baseball in the 70s must've been amazing.
