What would you say he is as of now? Just a decent one?
I'm unsure on whether I should keep him or not. I mean, his potential is not the greatest one and I don't now how much it will cost me to train him. Even trained, I'm unsure if he will be good enough for a top position.

Man, I picked him as starter, sub and reserve and "strictly follow depth chart". He still got subbed...
Anything I can do? It's the 2nd game already this happens. He didn't foul out btw, it was just because of garbage time.

Mostly, there's nothing more you can do - as long as everyone you have available for the game is listed as a starter or backup for another position, and this player is listed as starter + backup + reserve, you'll have the best chance of 48 minutes. The only thing you could do to improve the chances would be to only play 5 players, but that's really only possible if you're throwing games or ridiculously dominant or just don't care about GS or wins.

This already happened to 3 guys I wanted to train this week. I'm assigning them as starter, backup and reserve. The other positions have starters and other players as backup+reserve so there is no-one unassigned.
I'll try to play a slower tactic as suggested. If that doesn't work I might have to assign only 5 players each game (as suggested too) although it will mess up my math on the Game Shape.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep in touch with next game's result.

Play less than ten people, and it should help. Here's an example.

Player A <- Trainee
Player B <- Trainee
Player C
Player D
Player E
Player F
Player G
Player H

PG
Starter- Player C
Backup- Player D
Reserve p- Player C

SG
Starter- Player E
Backup- Player F
Reserve- Player E

SF
Starter- Player G
Backup- Player H
Reserve- Player G

PF
Starter- Player B
Backup- Player B
Reserve- Player B

C
Starter- Player A
Backup- Player A
Reserve- Player A

Theoretically, it should work. If not, remove the backups and go with just five...

Completely understood. You don't see professionals playing all 48 minutes of a game (usually), and it keeps the realism factor of BB there, but the strategy I just listed is the one I use, and so far (in 4 seasons back around 11-14 and for a couple weeks now that I've started again) it seems effective roughly 85-90% of the time, assuming one uses "Strictly follow depth chart" and has players that aren't overly aggressive and fouling like madmen as their trainees.
