And what I'm saying is, if SB is replaced by something like off-ball/helpside defense, it has a broader impact and will also be useful against other tactics than just LI. That could make it more worthwhile to train, and lead to a better balance in the game :) At least that is my suggestions/theory.

How are you going to stop inside shots that come from players with 17+ IS with 11-12 SB?
With 17+ ID, 9 to 12 SB and more than average OD helps as well. Players with higher SB don't block way more shots. Of course there is exceptions with some players, but that's not a rule and not worth to train it higher. NT players with high ID and SB 10 are at least as effective than players with extra high SB level.

If a player has 17+ ID and SB as low as 12, its largely irrelevant what his SB is, as its still too low. If he is then trained to 13, I agree you won't see much effect because its still too low.

NT players with high ID and SB are not as effective as players with extra high SB. Inside players with high ID, and about the same level of SB will be much more effective than the player with 10SB. Anything to the contrary is simply wrong.

At which level of competition had he played? If he was a player from a top league, I still find the result pretty impressive, as it was probably made against OD from range 18-20 (I suspect that such a level of OD is a standard in the top flight). And you gave us only FG%, not 3FG%. If 3FG% also was 40%+, we're getting quite close to today's basketball standards of "superior shooter".

It was 2 div team where he played last. This player's OD was just 10, so I don't think he ever played in 1st div.
