The 8th not only is relegated but his team will become weaker and with less money.

I would love to get some of those 8th place draft picks, though. Actually I would love to get even those 5th, 6th, or 7th place draft picks, but that's my problem.

You can't both promote and get good draft pick, it was you're choice..

On the other hand some clubs are too weak to promote and yet too strong to relegate through play - out game..Explain me in all your wisdom why I should not be 6th rather then 5th and receive money, training, and better draft pick?

- maybe you want receive money for succesful play, in the season ... If you loose game you loose income in your home games.

- maybe you don't want to play the league below

- maybe you could arrange the 2 games week with your training programm(if i flew out of the play of, i'm happy that i could train IS or Rebounding with my guards, with ft or stamina training is it equal if you play 2 or 3 matchs)

Man, I can't promote, period. I'll try my best to win the title, though. And hope the best for the draft. :-)

By all means finish 6th if your situation is as you describe.

Getting to participate in the playoffs is a big deal for many regardless of the financial effects it may have. Of course, some consider a higher draft pick more valuable than a one-game playoff experience and therefore rather finish lower. No problem, they can do it. Fifth place deprives you of one game (!) but guarantees you at least one more season in your current league. Sixth place is not necessarily too bad, but it's already a gamble. Naturally there are teams that can march into the relegation knowing they will win, but for a majority of the teams it's not a sure win. Half of them will lose, every single time. (And what if you face that other guy who felt like you and gave up on the playoff spot for the higher draft pick?)

The lowest (human) league level is a special case where the 6th, 7th, and 8th place finishes really are better than the 5th place finish. Due to the pyramid structure, it's a special case that affects surprisingly many teams. However, since we're basically discussing tools for success, it's not that important for most teams. (I mean, how many seasons does a team that worries about their success and some individual training losses spend at the bottom of the system anyway?) If there's no chance to make the playoffs and win the title, it may be better to lose some games and possibly some money at the gate and get the extra training (compared to 5th place) plus the better draft pick. Personally, I'd rather go for the title, if there was any real chance.

- I agree, I will lose some percent of income per game but I still think that it is way smaller amount then money you get for 1 game. And just for the record, I tried to reach play-of but I lost few games in last minutes. I tried to be succesful :)

- I said that I cannot lose against the teams I would face in play - out, but there is always a chance I'm wrong and that would be the risk I'm willing to take

- ok, I did forgot that I can train stamina or ft (probably cos I think that other skills are more important). That is one solution, thanks!

I agree with almost all that you said! I tried to reach play-off but I failed, next season it should be better..

But, I really think that they should allow 5th and 8th placed teams at least one more scrimmage. In real life you could train much better and improve your players cos you don't have to worry about the games..Of course, they will lack experience and money from participating in play of (or play out)..

PS. Losing on purpose is something that NBA teams do but it is still wrong..

This discussion has been put up many many times.

5th place: certain of staying in the league, but less training, less revenue.
6th place: more revenue, more training...

Wrong comparison! You should compare 6-7 teams with the 8th and the 1-4 teams with the 5th. Now the things don't look fair, aren't they? The 8th not only is relegated but his team will become weaker and with less money. And the 5th not only lost chance for promoting but now will have to suffer. Not the 6th, the 7th place is better than the 5th!

why is comparing a 5th and 6th place wrong? one can compare any of the places and try to decide what he favors.

to cwiki:
Not all managers have the same goal, and every manager will do his best to reach his goal. So there can be no unfairness. There can be talk of being unlucky because the other managers have goals they try to reach which are not fitting for the goal you have for your team, but unfortunate is not unfair.

I can imagine some managers that favor a 6th place and manage to get there, but are unlucky enough to get their best 2 players injured for 2 or 3 weeks, with no decent back-ups. Due to this they relegate, where they normally counted on winning the degradations games. BANG! I'm sure they will not try to get into 6th place again when they can reach 5th afterwards, because it might take many seasons to promote again...

Ofcourse this is diffrent for lowest division teams, but then again, managers will strive to get out of lowest division asap, so it will only count for a very small time in your careers...

They are not your friends; they dispise you. I am the only one you can count on. Trust me.
