Not necessarily. If your priority is training, you will be giving up winning games to train your trainees. I find that income is a by product of winning as opposed to the other way around. You could technically still make money but still lose games.

Maybe it is a difference of opinion but that was the approach I took when I started. Win first. Training was second priority. If i got the win then I was more than happy to forgo training minutes. At least by winning I was able to increase my attendance money and was making a lot of cash in the league games.

while i also agree with this, most teams that are new and need mentoring are in div 4 , thus they can train effectively as well as win games. this also sets them up to be contenders in div 3 rather then fodder for other div 3 teams.

div 3 training can get a little harder to manage and keep winning , but is still quite doable as long as you have taken previous steps while in div 4 to make it possible.
ie built a strong economical base for your franchise as well as trained correctly.

this is why i believe for new teams in order of importance should be

1 trainees (the way forward.)
2 arena / assets ( ability to sustain and grow )
3 winning / promotion ( the fruits of your labor)

1+2 are of course geared steps in to making 3 a reality .

I am a massive fan of training. I wish i started with it earlier than i did. I really only got into it seriously midway through my 1st full season - back when i started in Div 3 (season 6) if you regularly looked at your team you would win your Div 3 (much the same as 4 now according to a mate that just started)

It's my only belief that getting a good trainer, and one great trainee along with 2 others that are decent as early as possible and getting them as much single position training as possible would be the way to go.

Also manage your enthusiasm and game shape - their are still teams in the ABBL that don't do this well and i have no idea why - it will make a massive difference to the way your team plays.

Those ABBL teams are prolly trying to go for a long CUP run, or they are just inactive for a week or two hence the bad gameshape. Their minute management should settle down once their CUP run is over.

Both approaches mentioned by yodabig and monkeybiz are correct. It really depends on where your team stands in your league. If you think you can promote then concentrate a bit more into winning and promoting into the next division. If there is a team in your league that is likely to promote before you do, then concentrate a bit more into training and cutting costs and just be patient in saving money for next season once an opportunity arises for you to promote.

However in div4 you can do both, win and train at the time since there are mostly bots.

It's actually surprising how many people under estimate the value of gameshape, even at an ABBL level i think.

Stamina is undervalued far more in my opinion but that's a different matter altogether :P

Good morning to everyone,

I just received my team last night so you could say I am as new as they get

I seem to have about 16 players on my roster and from what I have read this is way too many. Was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of who to get rid of. Am going through the tutourial at the moment and have fired two players who were role players, seemed to be the lowest out of all my team.

Anyway great being here and looking forward to fun times ahead.

anyone with under 3k salary fire straight away... dont know the skills of ur other players but that is a start... you start with more than enough money to find decent replacements

Well only having their salary showing doesn't help but it looks like you got a bad starting team.

Solid players based on their salary alone look like Willy Edwards, Ngake Blackmore and Ramsey Pioquid. The rest bleh!

For training - the most important thing for a new team - only two guys are remotely trainable, Cecil Mirich and Willy Edwards.

This means you have probably only 4 players worth keeping, but look for defence, players with respectable defence may have a role to play still.

For the rest of your team, sort by salary, everyone under $3,000 sack them right away unless they have respectable defence, even then I would probably sack them.

Then for the rest, look as their Transfer Price Estimate, if it says something like "rarely sell for more than a few thousand $" or $1,000 - $3,000 then sack them right away.

You have $250,000 starting cash, with this you can make a solid starting team easily. If you want more details, let me know.

you have drafted 2 very nice looking big men. they will be the core of your team so I would advice you to sell Chad Longhurst for some quick cash since you wont be training him as you will be training big men in Cees Jan van Engelen and
Vittorio Noviello. what I would advice you to do is to go out and spend the remaining of your money on 1 very good big man trainee. good starting main + secondaries skills, potential etc. since your playing in a IV so you wont be needing any good veterans as you will be most of the time - bashing bots... which can be done with 4k players... about getting that last trainee, let me know, dont be hasty and make a wrong decision. you will probably be able to get a very big trainee with the starting money you got. you would preferably want to get a Trainee with at least inept/mediorce in passing to keep those TO down and get his assist up or train them up in passing even though it would be slow due to their height. but I wouldnt worry if your current trainees dont have much in their passing department but they will be great as the core of your team.

as usual its the start of the new season n ill be taking on more people to mentor - if you need help let me know via b mail.

current mentorees stand at 20 teams :)

of which - 10 promoted last season :)

7 made the play offs n didnt promote :(

and 3 became late mentorees in which they joint late last season in div 4 and could not make the playoffs , but im sure will promote this season.

id also like to take a moment and thank these guys as mentoring players is something i really enjoy (i guess from being a coach in real life lol)
so guys you know who you are thank you for allowing me to litt my enjoyment of this great game to even higher levels.

oh and fanny - ill still mentor you if you want even though your in my div :) im tanking anyway lols
