I really believe the teams that can skyrocket up are the ones that hit a big draft pick. If you get a PG/SF 18 year old Hall of Fame draftee with about 5k salary, you stand to make at least $2 million on the TL.

Hopefully that's me. I have a really promising rookie I scouted a bit back, enough that I'm hugging 8th place.

Tjats how i ended up here although i made it here a season or 2 sooner after a 21-1 promotion. Valenzuela and dupre have been cornerstones to my team and i have purchased guys 28+ to fill in the gaps. Now im hoping for a good big man or 2 to start training after next years draft to work on my front court.

Unless IV changes, it's easier to amass money there. That said, you can still need some pretty significant bank to get out of there. My approach was 1) get a couple good trainees that would produce after a couple seasons 2) rely on underpaid old guys and a career extension coach. Ideally, you'd hit that league above once the trainees are legit starters in the league above, and have the bankroll for the starters. At that point, you can move the old guys to backup positions. My approach largely worked, except that my trainees weren't ready yet. Now, I've had to replace players at virtually every position, so I don't have nearly the money I had hoped for with a view towards II. I'm pretty sure I could get out of here this season if I really want, but survival in II is another story. If I don't get out this season, I'll probably do a 3 or 4 season rebuild.



That is exactly what I did a few seasons ago, and it got me to II like you. However it wasnt enough to stay in II, like you as well. I plan on doing sometihng very similar again only sustaining it for several more seasons, maybe two complete rookie training cycles instead of 1. The key is to amass so much cash that you can not only get to II but get there with several million dollars to become competitive there as well

I've trained mine up a bit (and one I purchased), but if I did a trainee selloff now, I'd have some pretty good bank. The problem for me is that it doesn't make any sense to really scout at the top position. But let's say I don't promote this season (and I give myself 50/50 at best), I would have to consider even tanking in III next season, especially if I got really lucky and drew a good player. Depending on the strength of new teams here, I might be better off dropping to IV for a season or two.

I am going into rebuild mode for next season as well. Not sure if I am going back to IV or going to linger near the bottom and hang on like Eclypse sort of is, but the goal will be money. Look for key pieces of my team to go on the market soon :P

If we're considering it, more are. IV will be littered with strong infrastructure teams rebuilding before long, which will make it just as complicated.

Sounds like we could have lots of rebuilding going on next season. Smedlock picked the perfect season to work towards!

It makes sense though, looking at all of our salaries. I can't imagine anyone in the promotion hunt is making too much profit on a weekly basis. So, at some point, that isn't sustainable.

The playoffs will be very interesting. Swanson and Demon Hoosiers have to be the favorites, but it's really too close to call at this point. However, with the recent purchases of the Traptors and Swanson, I'm liking my chances less and less. To have to beat the Traptors (home or away?) then Demon Hoosiers away, then Swanson 2 out of 3 without homecourt sounds pretty daunting.

If I don't succeed, I'll throw my hat into the rebuilding mode too!

In all likelihood, my squad error against Swanson cost me home court if I make the finals. It will be interesting to see how good his new purchases are. He has at least one position where he's much stronger than me and vice versa, but I don't think anyone is close is bench strength to me - that often isn't really a factor though.

Regardless. Once I have the cash needed I dont feel threatened much by the idea of having to get out of IV. It will be so much money that I will be aiming at staying in II. That being the case IV shouldnt be the problem. Not just going to rebuild, going to slingshot.

This is the 2nd season I have lost money just to come in 2nd (or maybe 3rd) and be inferior enough to not have shot at beating the #1 seed in my conference. My bank is red, thank god my last two games are at home.

Pretty much ditto. I have a little money left, but I certainly couldn't keep my current squad around next season.

Overspending is always a gamble. Two seasons ago Extra Crispy 4th fried Flashmashers 1st in quarters, which, I'd say is part of the reason why Mashers are demoting now.
My best player got injured 3mins into the 2nd game of the final series with Liberty & Power and look at them now!

On the other hand staying put doesn't play well with the supporters, so you gamble :)
