I never talked about blocking preimeter shots either. Let me try and clear this up for you.

Good shot blocking big men allow guards to play their men tighter, but this likely has little to do with the game engine.

When the big mewn are good shot blockers then outside players can stay within arms length of hteir men due to the fact that if their man beats them they have good shot blocking behind them to help. It is more or less common knowledge that good bigs help perimeter defense in this way. However, I agree that this might be difficult for a game engine to account for.

However even if a guard is a good shot blocker himself he can tighten up on his man because he can better recover from mistakes if he gets beat. Again though, I'd be very surprised if this was accounted for in the game engine.

This part also has zero to do with blocking jumpshots. Simply put, if a guard is good at blocking shots himself it can have similar effect to solid bigs. If you are a guard and you get beat by you man what are your options? You pretty much have to try and block the shot. If you suck at recovering to block (or bother) shots then you have to lay off your man on the perimeter so he can't get by you. This meakes it easier for him to get open jumpshots from the perimeter. If you are good at blocking shots you are less worried about what happens when you get beat and play your man tight. This makes it nearly impossible to get off perimeter jumpers. Thus making it much more difficult to score from outside.

Again though, not likely to be part of the game engine, even if it should be.

What having a good shot blocker does is allow your perimeter defenders to take away the jump shot. That's what happens when you play your man 'tighter' -- it's harder for them to shoot, but it's easier to drive by you. However, since you have a good shot blocker under the basket, you're not too worried about driving, since he's waiting there to clean up

I'm not sure why you felt the need to tell me I'm wrong and then repeat back to me my point exactly. Even down to pointing out that it is likely not accounted for in the game engine.

I am having a hell of a time figuring out what it is you think I said, because clearly we are speaking different languages. At what point did I say any of what you seem to think I said?

My favorite part was this:

I highly doubt that this type of contingency is evaluated in BB

I pointed this out specifically in nearly every post so far during this conversation, so I love how you felt the need to explain it to me. Thank you.

congrats to jbmcrock for winning the BBB! Despite having a team with about half the salary mr burns managed to put up a good fight again but this time the coin flipped to the other side. Keep up the good work you both! Let this rivalry bring even more great games.

Crazy to have 4 injuries in the final - 3 starters hurt for Toroo and they still win!

Are you sure HCA is turned off?

Despite the games played at a neutral arena, the teams on the right seem to win a lot more than the teams on the left. That said though, I am only going off this years and last years final and semis

EDIT: Should have been to everybody

Blocking perimeter jump shot is notoriously harder than blocking inside shots. Therefore, I don't see how having a shot blocker on the perimeter should help your OD ratings at all.

Does this response have anything to do with the actual game mechanics at all or is it completely from your own opinion?
