For me the most important thing is the age of the draftee. I will try and put 18 year olds at the top of my draft list. Your ranking depends on what you want to achieve.

If you want to sell the player, then try and get an 18 year old with high potential and decent skills.
So if I wanted to sell I would pick a 3 star skills and 5 star potential over a 4 star skills and 4 star potential.

If you want to train up a player, then you should be happy with 4 stars in potential (or even 3 stars in potential if you don't plan on training him for many seasons). If you plan on training him for a long time then naturally potential is more important than initial skills.

This is a personal preference, but if any of my draftees have 2 balls or less in skills then I put them at the bottom of the draft list. Also, if any of my draftees have 3 balls or less in potential then I put them at the bottom of the draft list (unless it is a 5 star skilled, 3 star potential 18 year old which I would rank highly but would probably sell for a decent price.

Also I would only take a 19 year old if they had 5 star in skills and 4 or 5 stars in potential.

i would say potential costs > than skills. draft list 1st thing you should look at - potential.

May I offer a dissenting opinion?

Oakland is a division V squad, and a losing one at that. A single super-duper high potential individual will not really be worth much to him for 2 or three seasons -- and that to really develop this player's potential, we would be talking single player training -- in other words, something unnecessary to succeed in div. v and into div. iv.

someone could point out that a high potential draftee is worth a lot of money on the TL -- and that oakland could take that money and buy some more appropriate, useful players for his current circumstances.

to be losing in div. v means oakland needs players, plural. a good draft -- two decent players, sold, say, for a million dollars, could bring in three decent veterans, or two trainable players with much lower potential (say "starter" or "6th man").

oakland is right to be excited, though. a good draft could be the break his team needs.

Since the day I've bought the team...I've been tanking my season (intentionally trying to lose every game I could) in order to assure a good draft spot. I realize now this may not have been the best idea since I've put all my eggs in one basket, and the lack of attendance is starting to hurt. I have 3 good prospects (2 pretty good perennial allstars and an allstar) that I've stashed away and have been training but I hardly ever play more than 1 of them in a game.

I'm looking at the third pick in the draft right now, and there may be a little leeway late in the season for me to try and win a game to help get some attendance money.

That being said, if I could land an MVP or higher in this draft, I will literally jump with joy
