I also experienced different minutes from backups between 4th league and 3rd league last season.

In 4th league I had only one decent competitor. If I exclude blowouts, my starters played about 28-32 minutes.

Last season in 3rd league I was underdog in almost half games, so my starters played more than 32 minutes almost always.

So it really depends also on the opponent.

Agreed. So it would become much harder to give more minutes to backup if it's a very very close game. Oh, but what happens, if the backup is siginficantly better than the starter??? Will the starter still get more minutes in this situation?

I have tried that once. I was too confident in the win and put my 8k center as a starter with 44k center as a reserve and backup (44k center didn't need that many minutes).

44k center ended up playing 13 minutes, I lost by 1 point in last second against a team I already beat on take it easy once, stayed out of playoffs and lost a bunch of money. Of course I should set "Follow chart until 4th quarter", but I didn't. I learned a lot from that.

So perhaps, even if the backup is far more superior to the starter, as long as it's set Strictly Follow the Depth Chart, the starter will receive more minutes in close games???

Yes, I think this is true. That's why you should always use "Depth chart until 4th" in those cases.

Already tried that, but Depth chart until 4th doesn't mean STRICTLY follow depth chart until 4th, so if you put your (much) better player as backup he will get a lot of minutes... Got my training plans messed up pretty badly this way...

This.

Depth chart til 4th has been a bust nearly since inception.
