Cup Watch

For the 1st round of cup games besides Thunder SJ and Raging Dragons, the rest of the teams are all against bots. All should be expected (besides Thunder SJ and Raging dragon who are against Final Fantasy XIII and Chai Chee respectively) to advance to the 2nd round.

Still, good luck to all tonight and hopefully have a good draw for 2nd round as well

Player of the week: Week 1

And here's to start off the player of the week! lol.. anyway all these are just purely my opinions

Big 8
Player of the week goes to Arkadiusz Borys of Hoop Magical.

Playing primarily SF in the last 2 games, Arkadiusz Borys has stellar performances in both adding a much needed scoring punch for Hoop Magical. In a very close loss against Chai Chee, Borys put up a 36 pts, 5 reb, 3 asts and 2 steals performance shooting a blistering 6-13 beyond the arc trying to bring his team back to a win. In the cup game against Kampong Tongkang Pechah Blazers, Borys torched them for 26pts and showing he's not just a scoring maching with 8asts and 2 rebs leading Hoop Magical to a commanding win over the helpless Blazers.

Week 1 averages of Arkadiusz Borys: 44min, 31pts, 52.1 FG% (24-46), 3.5reb, 5.5asts, 2 steals

Great 8
Player of the week goes to versatile F-C Lim Kim Pin of Final Fantasy XIII.

Ex-U21 player Lim Kim Pin can play all foward positions and center. Not many players can do that but Lim Kim Pin is one of the even rarer few that can play all 3 positions well. In a win against KKTAN, Lim Kim Pin, playing SF, didnt score much (11pts, 5-14 shooting) but did the other little things 9 rebs 4 of them offensive and 5 asts to help Final Fantasy XIII come out on top. Against Thunder SJ for the cup, Lim Kim Pin, playing C this time round, switched on his "dominating" mode. He had a 30pts, 19reb, 5asts game that brought fans to chant his name repeatedly after the thrashing of Thunder SJ by 112 points.

Week 1 averages for Lim Kim Pin: 43.5mpg, 20.5pts, 57.6 FG% (19-33), 14rebs, 5asts

Cup Watch

Lady Luck is still smiling on league II.1 so far as most teams except rajons team and bot team QingSee are against computer opponents. All against computer teams are expected to advance with ease

Ranked 33 rajons team is going up against ranked 51 Singaopre Slingers BC and rajons team has the home court. All advantages in every position goes to rajons team so it might be a relatively one sided affair. However, a very interesting matchup between rajons team center, Chung Wen Xin, and Singapore Slingers BC's greek 7'4" giant, Nikos Prasinos, could surface through this cup game. Rumours from a source which prefers to remain anonymous reports that Chung Wen Xin is not in the best of shape with minor muscle sores but is fully expected to play. However, this should not make the center matchup any less interesting.

Ranked 52 QingSee is going up against ranked 31 NinjaSG. This is clearly a one sided matchup as the computer players of QingSee with all their advanced programming still cannot hope to match the human players of NinjaSG. QingSee manager should start preparing, i mean programming commands, for future league matches ahead.

Player of the week: Week 2

Its now week 2 of the season. These are the players that showed us their best performances in the week, players that managers will certainly rely on when it gets tougher from here on.

Big 8
Player of the week goes to Nicola Veridiani of Bobbleheads

Bobbleheads is sitting right on top of Big 8 in II.1 undefeated and a major part of that reason why is by their superstar SF Nicola Veridiani. In the game against Chai Chee, Nicola showed his all around game with 20pts, 6rebs and 10asts, just 1 less assist than the entire Chai Chee team(11), leading Bobbleheads to a convincing 95-79 win. In the next game, Pacific Storm visited Wobble Arena and Nicola dazzled the home crowd with another strong all around performance of 27pts, 6rebs, 6 asts and holding his matchup, Francisco Catarecha, to a horrid 2-9, 4pt, 5 PF night.

Week 2 averages of Nicola Veridiani: 40min, 23.5pts, 52.8FG% (19-36), 6rebs, 8asts

Great 8
Player of the week goes to Jonathan Tulod of KKTAN

PF Jonathan Tulod has been doing his best keeping KKTAN in the top half of Great 8 giving his fans early hope of a playoff spot. 1st game of the week, Jonathan shot an extremely efficient 10-14FG, scoring 20pts, hauled in 11 rebs with4 offensive and had 2 steals thrashing LastMenPlaying by 76. 3 days later, KKTAN went to NEWBak Ku Teh Kings home ground and Jonathan brought his game on both offensively and defensively. He totalled 26pts, 11rebs with 4 offensive and held Kings starting PF to a 1-10 shooting night leading the team in a losing effort. Still not done for the week, Jonathan Tulod played in the cup game against boltz and dominated the boards as usual with 18rebs adding 6 assists and 17pts in a night that all boltz fans would rather forget.

Week 2 averages for Jonathan Tulod: 34.4min, 21pts, 65.1FG%(28-43), 13.3rebs, 4,3orebs

Cup Watch

This round proves to be a tougher one as half of the league II.1 teams that are still alive in the cup have human opponents and 2 of them are SBBL teams.

First up, ranked 24 KKTAN is facing vocal manager Dai Kiryu's ranked 43 PROMENADE BASKETBALL CLUB (PBC). PBC''s team is lead by their big 3 consisting of Chris Weston, Abrams Peldinš and veteran Tautrimas Plašcauskas. KKTAN's star C, Zygfryd Kremski (16.0ppg, 10.0rpg), is likely sitting the game out giving PBC an edge in the C position. However, besides the big 3, PBC's players consists of "others" which might not be able to matchup against KKTAN's more balanced team lead by PF Jonathan Tulod. Even if Dai Kiryu does add his shouting and debating prowess to this game by the sidelines, the advantage clearly points to KKTAN and its up to them to exploit it and bring home the victory.

ranked 32 rajons team has been playing against human teams since after the 1st round and this round is no exception. They will be playing against ranked 41 JJLIM. rajons team recently bolstered its front court by selling rebounding extraordinaire Ang Ming Kuan for an even more proficient rebounder and stronger scorer Rudolf Godovnikov (36pts, 22rebs in last game). Together with Chung Wen Xin, rajons team frontcourt is loaded with some of the best players and JJLIM's chances of winning looks even more slim. It would probably be a good experience for JJLIM's young PF Kwok Tse Ze going up against rajons team frontcourt monsters and a painful loss for JJLIM.

For a slightly closer matchup, ranked 18 NEWBak Ku Teh Kings will be going up against ranked 25 Shooting Stars(YOG) with Shooting Stars(YOG) having home court. Kings have been using the same strategy for a few seasons, balanced scoring with ball movement. Vitomil Wolf and his league leading 8.8 apg, will probably be the key person for the offence and the primary person to stop for Shooting Stars(YOG). Zhong Dayou will be counted on heavily by YOG to score and keep the score close. The Kings should exploit YOG's thin frontcourt due to injuries to YOG's bigman Naoum Digkas and control the boards so Wolf has a 2nd chance to set up the offence. This matchup probably can go to anyone.

ranked 34 juntion 9 got the short end of the straw drawing ranked 11 Whampoa All-Stars as their opponent. juntion 9 has added a few new players to beef up their roster but can only hope that all of the team plays lights out and at a seriously high level against Whampoa All-Stars superior squad lead by Konrad Krassowski. The ball is round and anything can happen but it takes 150% effort from juntion 9 players and quite alot of luck if juntion 9 wants to advance in the cup.

Last but definitely not least (probably the most exciiting actually), ranked 17 Hoop Magical takes on the promoted league II.1 team that kicked them out of the conference finals last season, ranked 9 Flyer Sonic. Most league II.1 fans should still recognise Sonic's squad because the only new addition is SG Song Yuankun. Hoop Magical's bigmen Gary Bodhie and Arturo Palma will have their hands full against the twin towers Peh Jian Long (PJL) and Li An Wen (LAW) who both took turns to dismantle Hoop Magical numerous times last season. Luckily for Hoop Magical, Marcell Dobrovits is nursing an injury and is a question mark to play tomorrow. So all the running of Flyer Sonic offence will fall on Władysław Smaruj and getting him to sit by foul trouble is a start for Hoop Magical. Just a start to a difficult game for Hoop Magical. Watch out for Maties Bover who might have something to prove after seeing his team bowing out in the playoffs from the sidelines last season.
