When training, try to have a long term plan and not week to week plan. Because right now you are training him in whatever comes to your mind, but you also have to ask yourself what kind of player do you want him to become and what can you do to minimize his salary for maximum effect.
For example, if you want to have a inside-oriented SG, you won't train his JR a lot since it does little for him in Inside tactics, but it boosts his salary. By this token, IS will help him more and doesn't cost a dime. I don't want to say you have to train him to be an inside SG; it's just an example.
EDIT: Also, don't get discouraged if you don't see any pops after a training. The most important thing is you giving him 48 minutes per week. At the beginning, I was the most excited on Fridays, waiting for pops. Now this "excitement" moved to right after the game, when I see my trainee received full 48 minutes.
