Problem with the draft is that one season you will find 5 STUD players and for the next three seasons garbage and worse players.

What we need is a youth team system, where you get what you spend - I suggested that years ago, but we know whats possible here and what not.

Drafting makes absolutely no sense in a league system like that, where teams promote and demote. The game does not emulate US pro sports with closed ecosystems where you have to find ways to place goop players in bad teams. Plus, it is highly unfair that teams can get lucky in the lottery and make truckloads of money just because. Just take a look at my leagues draft of this season - 99% percent of the players are worth less than a pile of crap and then you find the pinnacle of the draft class selling for seven digit numbers.

If every team had a youth squad, where you could spend from xk to xxk per week, and you could define what type of player you want, it would finally make training and growing your own players worthwhile. Plus ith would help smaller nations develop somewhat competitive national team players.

Its not like selling one special player for a lot of money is a big deal, but 2.6 million in this economy is a gamechanger - with money like that you can get one to three finished players that will rock the league - its a slap in the face of every other team in the league that has to work hard for its money and success when somebody gets lucky like that.

Just as a comparison:
winning the cup: 300k
winning the league: up to 1mil
winning B3: 1 mil

So drafting THE player is like winning it all in one season - if you think thats fair...

I would love to see a youth academy on BB, it would bring more fun to game. Think its impossible, but its just a wish from one user ^^

This is where we hold them!

I would enjoy that also.

I might also think that changing the draft pools entirely might not be bad. Instead of 18 and 19 year old guys with crappy potential/skills, maybe instead have guys be up to age 23 or so, with star - perennial allstar potential tops and at skill levels that are probably below what an 18 year old would have reached but maybe with interesting builds.

Each week millions of people pay money for the lottery. No one is forced to do so, btw. Each week a handful of lucky players get the jackpot of some hundred thousand $ or even millions. It all depends on luck. This is life, but life's not fair.

Same thing with BB and the draft: you don't have to pay for it, each of us has the same chance to get the jackpot. Seems unfair, but isn't.

As of now what I'm reading is mostly "draft is bad and should be better". I'm waiting to hear "The draft would be better if..." without screwing the whole balance of training (for example).

Yup, you're right. I've been working on different systems and hopefully in the next weeks I'll be able to post on the suggestion forums :)

Your statement is that this is a LOTTERY.

Question: why there is a lottery inside a game that would be "realistic"?

It's clearly unfair and you'll see it when one team in your division in 2050 will earn 3 m doing nothing and you'll miss the promotion due to him

If you look at my transfer history you'll see that I bought a pot11-rookie for 2,75 million $ ;)

Just check out the NBA draft history and look at guys like Greg Oden - 1st pick. Got fired after some years of injury. Even Blake Griffin was a bad pick in his first year because he missed it.

So: in reality it's a lottery. Isn't it realistic then, if it's a lottery in BB?

For my 2c worth.

The draft is not something I have had success with myself since starting the game and I have been pretty down on ones chances of getting quality in it, however, looking at some of these posts about it got me thinking about my own perception of the Draft.

It has been mentioned that the Draft comes down to pure luck, and that this has no place in a Management Game. Is it luck to spend thousands on a Draft and strategically position your team to take advantage of quality players in it, or is it risk Management? I think it is perfect for a Management Game. Risk management is a very real quality to true management in the real world.

There are a lot of segments of this game that may be considered good or bad, but I guess the good part is that they are not hidden, and sometimes if not always we are forced into risk management on a number of levels, sometimes those calculated risks pay off and sometimes they don't, this is a lot like real life.

Look at how many teams are tanking in the NBA this season in the race to get Wiggins, they will loose millions, breed discontent with their fans, ruin their coaches career records, and for what, a chance to get in a lottery to pick up a guy who just might be worth the pay day. What happens if he doesn't come out of school next year? what happens if he sufferers a career ending injury during March Madness?

Then there is a team like Miami. No draft investment, just wait and buy championships with players everyone else invested in and trained, they have never grown a title team, they just buy one. Very few teams are going to do as San Antonio and Oklahoma do and build over time with quality and investment in youth. Just like in BB, there are so many options, and our choices take time and risk.

I like how the game plays, and would be very open to advances in the game as time goes on, and enjoy reading suggestions from the thousands of users.

I spent a lot on my draft in the Naismith last year but I got nothing there was not even a 5,4 or a 4,5 or even a 4,4 the best was a 5,3 in the entire draft this was my first round pick (30718756)
