We ended up this season with a defeat against Greece which officially eliminates us from the European Tournament. I can't hide my disappointment given I've made tactical mistakes, but the competition in our group was strong this season.
Before preparing next season with U20 scrimmages, here's a little recap of this EC.
Starting five
- PG : Ismail Hakki Bayal - 13,6 pts (51%) 3 rbds 2,7 asts
I bought him last season. Even though he wasn't supposed to be our starting point guard given his low passing level, he did show some good performances with the best OD and IS of the whole guards. Let's hope he'll join the national team one day.
- SG : Vasil Popov - 19,2 pts (57%) 4,8 rbds 2,7 asts
Trained by Jojo_21, he's been by far our best guard this season. Sadly, his game shape wasn't at his best in the last games, and the tactical choice of an inside attack + 2-3 against Greece made him sit on the benche for the whole game.
- SF : Stoimen Danov - 18,6 pts (45%) 4,1 rbds 1 ast
Trained in Israel by Alonso, he was supposed to be our number one offensive player. His game shape wasn't optimal at first, but then he did improve and earned his starting spot. Even though his shooting pourcentage wasn't always optimal, he managed to be the team's second best scorer. He could also join the national team one day.
- PF : Oleg Atanasov (MVP) - 11 pts (53%) 8 rbds 5 asts
Trained by Mod-raptor666, he must be the most amazing player i've had for the past 3 seasons. His passing abilities were really much needed given we didn't have a single true point guard. His stats speak for him, he was our MVP this season.
- C : Venelin Parushev - 8,4 pts (54%) 10,4 rbds 0,3 ast
Trained by atanasovvv, he had by far the best inside skillset of our players. His rebounding and inside defense have been precious through the whole tournament.
Bench
- PG : Chavdar Georgiev - 14 pts (38%) 3,4 rbds 2,6 asts
Trained in Spain, he started the competition off the charts. But then his shooting pourcentage dropped and his OD didn't improve enough to deserve a starting spot.
- SG : Georgi Simov - 9,6 pts (35%) 3,2 rbds 2,4 asts
Trained by Jojo_21 with his friend Popov, he performed well while Danov wasn't in good shape. But then he went back to the bench, mostly because of lower scoring abilities.
- SF : Vasil Kolev - 4,2 pts (33%) 1,4 rbds 1,4 asts
Trained by GM-Nik0, he's a huge NT prospect. Even though he wasn't supposed to play for the U21, his well rounded skillset was much appreciated to fill some holes in the lineup when other players were in bad shape.
- PF : Hristo Nachev - 5,5 pts (32%) 6,1 rbds 1,6 asts
Trained by MalkiaShef, he had much more playing time late in the season when his game shape was at its best. He didn't shot very well, but his other skills made him a good bench player.
- C : Koryun Petikyan - 3,7 pts (27%) 4,3 rbds
Trained as well by MalkiaShef, his young age made him struggle a bit this season. Anyways, he's in the right path to be a really dominant player next season.
Reserve
- Milko Vladikov - Trained by direct, he didn't play because of his lack of defense. Anyways, he isn't trained for U21 but for NT and his future should be bright.
- Pancho Geshev - Trained in Spain, he didn't play a lot given his game shape troubles and lack of progression.
- Vasko Nachev - Trained in Hong Kong, he's another nice prospect that had game shape and training issues...
- Dimitar Vasilev - Trained by Funnys, he didn't play this season but he shows good progress and should be our starting power forward next season.
Conclusion
Our first defeat against the Netherlands costed us a lot. We lacked a bit of primary skills in each position and of rotation in the paint to be able to defeat either Italy or Greece.
I'm sad we didn't perform that well this season. Next season should be my last one if we don't wi
