Pilipinas U21 (2-0) defeat Việt Nam U21 (0-2) 115-56 (39556)

Victor Carreon (38155969) continued his solid play with 27 points and 14 rebounds in 13-17 shooting. Guards Siegfred Estillore (38155755) and Atoy Co Mente (38155016) were outstanding combining for 30 points, 19 assists and 7 steals. Pilipinas showed great teamwork as they assisted in 45 of 53 field goals made.

Pilipinas started out perfect making their first 7 field goals. In contrast, it took Việt Nam 3 minutes until their center Lung Suong gave them their first points. The Philippine team build a 32-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Point guard Son Luong led Việt Nam U21 with 18 points, but shot 8-23 from the field. Additionally, he received little help from his teammates as they tallied 17-66 (26%) in their field goals.

Ace Julio Madrigal (38155771) was again limited to 12 minutes due to foul trouble. Fortunately, Engelbert Nisperos (38956653) provided relief with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in his first game as a member of the U21 team.

After the second game, the standings are more complicated. With this victory, Pilipinas (2-0) remains the only unbeaten Team in Pool D. In the meantime, Việt Nam (0-2) stayed winless while Taiwan (1-1) was able to upset the home team Australia (1-1). India (1-1) has a convincing 98-79 win over Macau (1-1) as they join the list of teams with one victory.

In Pool E, Singapore (1-1) lost to Malaysia (2-0) after their stellar victory over China while Hong Kong (2-0) beat Saudi Arabia (0-2) to stay undefeated. Iran (0-2) has yet to win a match after losing to China (1-1).

Our next game will be on next Monday, November 14, 5 PM, against Macau U21.

Pilipinas U21 (3-0) defeats Macau U21 (1-2) 121-82 (39558)

Atoy Co Mente (38155016) shot the lights out scoring 25 of his 32 points in the first half and Kenneth McNeil (38403266) made the most of his first start tallying 12 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks. Fellow big man Ace Julio Madrigal (38155771) also had a double double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks as he was finally able to stay away from foul trouble.

Expecting Macau to play Push the Ball or Patient, the Philippine team were surprised as Macau started the game by chucking shots from outside. This led to a slow start with Pilipinas leading only by two at the 4 minute mark. Fortunately, Pilipinas was still able to build a big lead thanks to the consistency of Mente.

Mente finally cooled off in the third quarter as he was limited to 7 points on 3-8 shooting but Englebert Nisperos picked up the slack scoring 9 after being scoreless in the first half. This allowed Pilipinas to further widen the lead.

On the other hand, even if Macau was lacking backup Liu Ruoyang due to injury, they managed to put up a fight thanks to SG Huang Pinghao having his game of the tournament. He was momentarily able to reduce the lead in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 of his 30 points, but a late run by Pilipinas ended the quarter scoring 24-23 in favor of Philippines.

Next Monday, November 21, 5 PM, we will take on the home team Australia in what is the most important game to date. Winning this game will guarantee us a spot in the semifinal. If we lose, we will be put under a sticky situation where we need to win the game against India and have a good point differential vs Australia and Taiwan in order to advance.

Iran (1-2) was able to upset Malaysia (2-1) with correct predictions and a 2-3 zone to obtain their first victory. China (2-1) beat Hong Kong (2-1) 80-61 to reclaim the top spot in Pool D. After China, Singapore and Malaysia are deadlocked with 2 wins apiece and 42 point differential. Singapore gets a nod for the second spot due to their PF (290 vs 289).

Coach, Harkess is injured 1 week, last play date 11/12 currently nasa resp gs siya so things are looking good for us. Possible rin na maglaro siya kung 9 days or below ang duration ng injury niya.
