He really is that good. Also most of the ABBL is only half trying this season. Look at almost any team and you can see a sopt or two they could easily upgrade for minimal cost and be much tougher.

Urmummas is a great example, four guys around $140-190,000 a week and the fifth $87,000. Slam ! is much more extreme, their third best player is $40,000 yet they have a 5-3 record (will be easybeats for a while having their best player injured, their previous second best sold and their current second best is in respectable game shape and just played 99 minutes this week).

Weakness in the ABBL

Is this one of the weakest ABBLs ever? It seems to me that half the league is tanking or taking advantage of the tankers and no-one is willing to take on Whitebeard outside the cup. Take a look at the current salaries.

Three teams at the salary floor and Slam ! and the Goldfish aren't far off it. That is four of the eight Great 8 teams deciding it isn't worth trying to compete and even Koop and I aren't that high. Take out Whitebeard and the 4/4 Urmummas who have the 2nd highest salaries and the 9th best record and then the next four highest salaries are all in the Big 8 where I guess at least they feel like at least they can get a trophy and the cash cow of finals games.

I shudder to think how much the guns, Tigers and Wombats are making each week, oh thats right I remember, about $500,000 a week! I may have the 4th best record in the ABBL but making just $60,000 a week is a pathetic reward. Shouldn't those that do well get richer?

If I am making $60,000 a week how do teams with $200,000 - $300,000 a week greater salaries survive?

PS: I think last week was a bad week, the fans stayed right away from the BLS game. The previous profits were $159,000, $160,000, $149,000, $170,000 etc. The BLS game was after the away loss to Whitebeard, so naturally after an away loss to Whitebeard thousands of fans lose interest in my team and I have an empty arena, would happen to the Lakers too right?

500K a week? Considering with the salary floor, my wages are only around 200K lower than yours, plus my attendance is crap, and I am forking out a fair bit for staff salaries, that is a gross overexaggeration. This season isn't about making cash for me, just happy training the young uns.

Short answer is no, it is actually a fairly strong season. It will be interesting to see how teams like Pancakes and BLS go against Whitebeard - that will be the true test.

There are obviously some teams who could get alot stronger, but frankly, its been like that for many seasons - think back a few seasons ago and you are looking at a fairly similar story - me and Whitebeard challenging, then a bunch of teams tanking, taking advantage of tankers, or going for 5th.

And greater attandance follows winning - its not that hard to make a profit with 800K+ salaries, because if you are any good, you should be winning games and raking in attendance money - even if your merchandise is crap.

To be honest, as effectively an outsider this season, there seems to be quite a few teams who really should be biting the bullet, and getting above 800K salary to become a true contender (and that's what it takes - unless your team is amazingly built you ain't winning the ABBL with sub 750K salaries). There are alot of teams who have been drifting between 600K-700K salaries for a number of seasons, but seem what whatever reason unwilling to spend the dough to become contenders. In the meantime, you are letting Whitebeard kick your buts and rack up a crapload of merch and attendance cash

damn WB's rolling with a 940k roster? no wonder noone can touch him considering my team has the 2nd highest salaries! a few more wins and hopefully i can pull in more then the measly 140k in merch im currently getting, save a few hundred k and buy another old fart and see where that takes me

It's my job to set the bar high. Trophies shouldn't come easy, they need to be earned! ;p

I was actually looking to contend for the title this season.

But then I upgraded my doc and the next 3 games my top 3 players all got mutli-week injuries. So I sold the two expensive centres and thought I will rake in the $$$ for a bit.

Well having bid $800,000-1,000,000 on trainees and failed several times this season maybe I will be willing to take a plunge later in the season, will depend on my financial position. In a one game series anything can happen and I do have a theory about how to beat Whitebeard, however my current team is very unsuitable to do it. I guess the salary floor is much higher when I did it and also I had the promotion season effect where the fans still love you no matter how badly you do for half a season.

If I can get 5th with 700k salary, I am happy =P

I've been burned with 1mil+ in salaries before so that's not going to happen for a while.

Even with 940k in salary, WB is probably still raking in 100k a week. Thats what happens when you're on a 100 game winning streak.
