The thing is that in case you wnat him to play (for example) PG as starter, SG as backup and PG as reserve, there is a chance that he will not get (I believe) that 48 minutes, and I believe that he should have also on that case.

No, I would not necessarily want the poor guy to play 48 min. I use such a pattern, or a PG-SG-SF type pattern quite often, and I have no 48-min aim.
It is a fact that using a single player as Starter, Backup and Reserved (SB&R) at a single position will result (most of the times - unless injured, fouled-out, or a bug...) of 48 minutes for that player.

I will also guess that in case you will use a single player both as your SB&R at more than a single position, he will still most likely play 48 minutes.

In any case, one that asks a player to play SB&R is taking at least a chance for that.
Usually, he means it this way (48 minutes). Otherwise, he will not use this option.

but isn't also a bit uncertainity about the minutes desired in the mix also for training, so that sometimes a totally exhausted player get benched them for 2 minutes isn't so weird for me.

No it does not happen.
If that player is the SB&R at a specific position he will keep playing.

At least - this is true at most of the time, which makes it the expected behavior for SB&R of a player on different positions.

in this case your change would be pointless, since the guy play 49 minutes anyway and there isn't a uncertainity in it.

Just last week I had my star player who I was training pulled from the game with two minutes to go in a blowout scrimmage. I had only dressed eight guys and set the usual "strictly follow/let them play/S-R-B" parameters. Stupid coach!

I also sometimes like to get non-trainees to get 48+ in one game during all star week depending on how hard the league match is, managing minutes that week can be a challenge and I'd rather not risk my stars in a scrimmage against some lucky fan with a flick knife.

Ahh??? It will make it more precise and predictable (less randomness) that this player will receive the intended 48 minutes AND play different positions.

you say there isn't uncertainity, so why it isn't predictable or precise? I think those 2-3 minutes another player can get are fine, since uncertainity in the minutes is wanted, could be even happen more often in my opinion. Since an exact minute appointment isn't wanted, in the other lineup moptions i think this should be the case there two.

In this case the randomness is not having a more complex game (which is a blessing), but making it harder to control as a BB-manager will.

Hence, I believe this suggestion is welcome.

Well, thanks for completely disregarding both my opinion and experience on this matter. Of course, if your suggestion is implemented I will change my way, but until then I will continue setting my line-ups in the blatantly erroneous way I have used for about 15 seasons now with results that have worked for my team.
