Game is not yet over but it seems it's over...

I'm sorry and disappointed, I thought we could win this one.

lol, where did you come up with that one?

Check their stats and check our stats.

We are in an elite 8... Teams we are facing are way superior to ours, my hope was they were going to underestimate us, which they didn't.

Countries that we are facing right now have a huge advantage compared to us, on pure numbers of active users.

I agree with Rip88 on that one actually, a 1-3-1 against a look inside equals a bad day at the office. I still think you did a good job getting us there, but if there is so little hope as you seem to think, why not throw them a curve ball and play a Look inside, I believe we have decent inside players to achieve success and since every team knows you're gonna throw a Run and Gun, they all play an outside-intensive defense, so the LI would work doubly in our favor.

Look at what the german manager did, he played Run and Gun a few times (a few motion, a Push the ball and even a look inside) and as such he thought that you would try to counter that with the 1-3-1 or even the 3-2 and went with Look inside.

Good luck in the rest of the world championship.

I think we had to choose a 1-3-1 or 2-3 and hope that we picked the right one. So probably good tactic on that front (except for the wrong guess). For the offensive end, I know run and gun is better for the team than look inside, but playing look inside or another offense would prevent teams like the USA from playing a 1-3-1. That said, surprisingly few teams have played a 1-3-1 against us. It looks as though if Deutschland had chosen an outside focus on offense, we would have won even with the run and gun.

lol, you should have told me what offense they will play, and I wouldn't have played 1-3-1 in that case

I am surprised how can one judge the tactics by not guessing their offense...

As for run and gun, jbmcrock is right, it can be played differently. However... our team is not good enough on other plans, unfortunately. I tried once and had enough of it after seeing the rates.

I don't mean to antagonize the Canadian community, but it's got to be told that it seems to me that (with exception of 2 people), the reaction to NT team(s) is upsetingly superficial. People change approval rating based on winning or not winning a game, most probably not even checking the game stats.
The latest game is a great example for what i say here. We had no business winning this game, we played a team vastly superior, the only chance was to take a gamble. It didn't work out, but it could have. If you bother to check the ratings, you see we are not in same league.

I definitely feel we overachieved again this season, however, people are discontent.

I started the team with great enthusiasm, and the interest from he community was minimal. I contacted players' owners in several occasions and at times didn't get an answer for weeks. Players ended up with bad game shape and nothing great seems to be coming from behind (look at U21 team).

Bottom line, people don't train, people don't really know what player pool we have, people don't scout our opposition (with very few exceptions as I said), but same people demand perpetual winning streaks.

It is a fact that we played teams that were also hosting the particular phase of the tournament and they do have an advantage that way.

Bottom line... Canada is in top 8 in the world with a team that doesn't justify it.

That's why it's puzzling to see the approval rate dropping after winning to US (vastly superior team and hosting nation) or Germany...

Not sure what the expectations were...

I think you are taking things too personally.

I haven't commented yet because I haven't really been paying very close attention. However, you don't really get to claim that you did some sort of exceptional job because of making top 8 because we were there last season as well. Why shouldn't you be expected to at least do as well as last season?

As I said, I have not paid attention so I cannot complain with what you've done as coach, but at some point you have to be open to discussion without getting defensive about it every time.

As I stated about previous term, that was overachieving as well... We do not have a team that compares with the top 8 teams in the world

Our offensive stats with look inside are much lower than our offensive stats with run and gun (as you stated).
Also, looking at the game stats... we would have been just slightly better off, I have my doubts we can go over strong (low) with inside offense, we didn't manage much previously. We would have also lost with inside offense. Our only hope was to catch their offense with the right defense.
If we did, we would have probably won the game, which it would be purely on tactics, the stats below speak for themselves.

Canada Team Ratings Deutschland

Run and Gun Offensive Strategy Look Inside
1-3-1 Zone Defensive Strategy 3-2 Zone

proficient (high) Outside Scoring: respectable (low)
average (low) Inside Scoring proficient (medium)
strong (high) Perimeter Defense proficient (low)
mediocre (medium) Inside Defense respectable (medium)
inept (medium) Rebounding strong (low)
mediocre (high) Offensive Flow respectable (medium)
