I guess he did not want 7uongo :)

Maybe he is setting up to be the next commisioner, seriously that is my theory. Once Bettman quits or gets fired, Burke will be the man.

The leafs have no need for Luongo, Reimer is fine for them. Burke is a great GM, he's just been the victim of circumstance too many times. Toronto is too demanding of a market. What surprises me most is that they're keeping him as a senior advisor. He'll be back as a GM in the NHL within a few seasons.

Burke would make a great commissioner, he can actually handle the hatred everyone gets as commissioner. Who decides when Bettman is done as commissioner?

Anyways, excited for the season to start. Go Oilers even though they'll probably miss the playoffs again this year. Another good pick doesn't hurt.

Yes a victim of circumstance.
let's see, the Leafs made the playoffs how many times in his stay?
NONE!
So, who created that circumstance?
Welcome to hockey, miss playoffs, get fired.
And..senior adviser just a title, they still have to pay the guy.
He's already said it won't have anything to do with players.

Burke can take the orders for Tim Horton's runs for management. He can advise what the current specials are.

If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.

The leafs have no need for Luongo

True, with the caveat that no one needs Luongo.

Reimer is fine for them.

No.

Burke is a great GM, he's just been the victim of circumstance too many times.

No.

Toronto is too demanding of a market.

The Leafs haven't made the playoffs since 03-04 and Burke emphatically guaranteed playoff hockey every single season (not that I bought it personally). He also left with a horrendous roster and no future in place. Maybe we're not demanding enough.

Burke has been a solid NHL GM in the past but his firing in Toronto has nothing to do with the media, the market or being a victim of circumstance, he simply did a poor job.

And while trading for Luongo's contract might be something to avoid, calling Reimer the answer is the same longshot it's always been. It's something Burke stated only because there were no better solutions available.

Good call on the commissioner part although I think the owners would prefer keeping a puppet like Bettman in charge rather than having a knowledgeable hockey man that speaks his own mind. That's the problem with pro sports, the commisioner is hired by the owners to act in their best interests. That's why Bettman isn't going anywhere, he takes direction well.

What do you guys think about Seth Jones being named the top draft-eligible skater from North America atop Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin. I honestly could see any of these 3 going 1st overall and who has the 3rd pick in the draft has the easiest choice in my opinion but Jones deserves it following his play at the WJHC and MacKinnon, well he can thank Steve Spott for his slide.

BREAKING: JACK NONIS MADE HIS FIRST MOVE AS TORONTO'S GM TRADING MATTHEW LOMBARDI TO THE COYOTES FOR CONDITIONAL DRAFT PICK(A 4TH ROUND PICK THAT WILL TURN INTO A 3RD ROUND PICK IF LOMBARDI RESIGNS WITH THE COYOTES NEXT SEASON.)

what i think about this trade: Matthew Lombardi will start producing for the Coyotes. Typical Leafs Luck.

4th round pick, not 4th overall.
