I don't think you can every give a manager advice that hurts their team. Managers have to want to train players voluntarily for U21. If they want to take them on a path that is different from U21 then it is our best interest as a community to help them achieve their goals. Just because they are not experienced does not mean they cant train a U21 player. Every experienced manager had to start somewhere.

My first year as U21 manager a player drafted a really good HOF big that they wanted to train. Obviously it would have been in my selfish interest to have them just pound on primaries for U21 but they would have ended up with a worse player in the long run if they didn't train secondaries. It's better for America to teach these players how to train correctly and you have an owner that you have built a relationship that will be a valuable asset in training players in the future. This manager actually just promoted to DIII this season and is very active in the game chat. He loves to mentor other players. Helping him with training benefits the community even more because he is passing on my knowledge to other managers.

I always tell USA owners to join the offsite and post a club training diary so the whole community can give them advice and feedback. I believe that scouting should be more mentoring then just giving them a training plan that they have follow. You want them to understand the elastic effect and how to train the fastest way possible. Why you are training certain skills in a certain order. Why getting at least an advanced trainer and getting 48+ minutes a week is important. Why single position training for most skills is the best way to train. Show guys how to not only get 48+ minutes a week but making sure that they are managing their minutes properly to get the best GS possible on their guys so that they can train and compete in their league. Suggest tactics that fit their team and their training schedule.

If training does not interest them, telling them they can make some nice money selling a young 18 year old prospect usually does interest them especially if they are not going to maximize the talent of the prospect and thus hurt the value of the team.

Because of the fact that the U21 ads that show up on players are based on salary, I get a lot of bbmails nearly every day from managers and I try to give them the best advice possible even if they have a star or allstar player that does not have a chance for U21 because of their low potential.

I would like to know the definition of the term "basically" in this statement.

If he is trump, you are Clinton.

You start the thread, you talk through plans, lineups, and tactics, but it's your call at the end. A lot of times what you throw out on Monday is in line with what the majority of managers on the off-site think is best, but sometimes it isn't. You should never yield to their demands and wishes though if you feel strongly about something though. You were elected, not them.

Nothing to disagree with here. In the end, the U21 manager makes the final decision. A decision I would make based on my own instinct, coupled with the thoughts of a trusted cabinet of managers. I keep stressing the importance of teamwork to ease the paranoia and decrease the attacks from the offsite. (of which I am member of, and do read)

Major decisions, such as finals tactics, would not be openly discussed anywhere. I would implement a new email based communication system for things of this nature and for scheduling discussions. (i.e. mailing lists, cc's, etc) It would be much easier for managers to schedule time for a meeting when they have the information on their phone.

It's time for all of us to let the small inner circle of the offsite know that we are serious about winning the GOLD.

I'm a member of the offsite, but i'm not really for or against someone from the offsite running it. I'm more interested in letting it continue the way it has knowing full well that there is a legitimate process in place, knowing full well that some of the things the offsite cabal has been accused of really isn't true.

I don't think that South Stags is a bad manager at all, and i don't find his new ideas bad for the overall culture of the Us program. I just find the whole "Us versus them" argument to be counter-intuitive to the building of a foundation for future u21 and NT clubs. I would rather he take his passion for new development paths and bounce them off of current u21 manager, and staff, and other good players on the buzzer beater website, similar to what Wolph (or whatever that new name of his is) does with SB'ing in Japan.

What will eventually plague the offsite and the regular website is the loss of long time members who were very interested in being on par or better than most other nations globally. I would rather see this debate go that direction, and i would rather see some more new people get involved.

I don't want to run for the u21 manager any time soon, with 40 hours of work and 10-12 hours of classes to pursue a masters degree to get a better job long term, i don't really have the extra 20-24 hours to dedicate to running something here. But if i did, i think my role would be a lot more people oriented. That is the part of the game that the US has lost of late, and could really use a boost in.

USA has been to Worlds Finals 5 straight times. You keep talking about results. Those are results.

The U21 failed to bring home the GOLD in both seasons 30 & 31. The U21 program needs leadership that can win the big one and achieve the only result that matters.

This is Americas chance to stop the bleeding here. We went from 7 straight Americas championships and consecutive Worlds titles to where we are today. How do we stand idly and place this silver on the mantle without making a change? America can not let this tailspin continue.

GOLDBEAR is all in for the GOLD

In the end I want to make this more about results, and less about +1 balls and handies.

Actually the lot of you could use a good old fashioned http://southpark.cc.com/clips/shj9it/a-nice-ol-fashioned

I think the most important part of gameplanning is doing the opposition research. The U21 manager needs to do more than just lead the discussion. They have to do their homework and make that they have all of the information ready before you can even talk about tactics.

I have a chart with the complete history of each opponent's games including Score, Result, GDP usage, whether the GDP was correct or incorrect, did they use enthusiasm, and all their game ratings (OS, IS, OD, ID, RB , Flow).

In addition, I do extensive opponent personal scouting. I post all GS/DMIs in order to predict what players are going to play and what will play . It's also important to know what players a team likes to use in each tactic. If you know that your opponent uses a certain player to play LI SF and another to Neutral SF etc., analyzing the DMI/GS of your opponent is a good predictor about what tactics a team will play Since GS has sub levels (low, mid, high), its important to track your opponents DMIs from week to week so you have a better idea how certain players are going to perform.

I also keep a database of the skills of all opponents that are put on the Transfer List. Even the starting skills of a 18 year old player that is put on the TL after the draft is useful in finding a weakness to exploit (like a big with 1 or 2 OD).

After that on Friday after the training update, I post a chart of our players with skills and GS to help you pick the best tactic for that week. Only then can the discussion really start.

The offsite was created to ensure a safe and secure place to discuss tactics without other nations seeing. All people who register for the offsite not only need to be a USA manager but are checked through our forum security to make sure their IP address is from the United States and they are not using a proxy or VPN.

Any USA owner can register for an account and contribute to the discussion. The idea that there is some small group of owners controlling the offsite is kinda of funny coming from someone who wants to create some secret email chain and have a small cabinet of "trusted owners". Doesn't sound like a community to me. During the finals, IIRC nearly 20 patriotic American BBers contributed to the gameplanning. The more people that contribute the better IMHO. Different perspective give you different insights that you can use.

But in the end advice is advice, and the manager is the one that has to make the tough call.

The purpose of the America's tournament is get an automatic bid to Worlds. That is more important then "winning" the tournament. We accomplished that task. I took us to the Worlds finals. Where we are today is a stronger U21 program than the program that I took over in S30.

Just because you keep saying things over and over again does not make them true.
