I agree that it's odd for a player with a solid JS should ever be lousy at FT. IS does not necessarily translate into FT (right, Tim Duncan? Shaq?). And FT is not a jump shot. But I don't think it takes a basketball rocket scientist (I think those exist, they mostly live in Houston) to figure out that the best FT shooters at any level tend to be players who can shoot mid-range shots pretty darn well, too. JR isn't a free throw, so I don't necessarily connect JR with FT (though there is probably a pretty good correlation between players who can shoot from behind the arc and players who can shoot from the charity stripe). So while I wouldn't suggest removing FT training (though I would certainly support something this radical), I'd ask how can a player work on his jump shot (which includes shooting mechanics) and not get better (even minimally) at the FT line?
