I personally think there is a hidden attribute. I fully believe my player, Kyle Noble, is "allergic" to game shape. I am a believer that the minutes from a 3 week span determine game shape fully, but I also believe there is a hidden factor that some players are just more apt to be in bad game shape. This is true in real life...it's not like Shaq could play himself into shape the last half of his career, right?

The reason why I use Noble as an example....I give the generally acceptable amount of minutes every single week and I have only gotten him to 9GS once or twice the last 2 seasons or so. I even trained GS last season and he would stay at 8GS.

Anecdotal evidence, like pretty much every example stated in this thread, can be used to argue any idea relating to game shape. The only robust study I've seen of game shape was performed by our resident data guru Josef Ka. (160760.2) Fairly conclusive evidence that there is some randomness to game shape.

Maybe after Wozz is done figuring out training speeds, he'll tackle the black hole that is game shape. Or even better, he and Josef Ka could team up....

Sorry I haven't read the whole thread, but I thought stamina had to be trained, whereas game shape was based on playing time, on a bell curve. I bought 4 new players a couple weeks ago, all in poor condition, but I've gotten their minutes right and I've trained stamina and they're beginning to approach respectabiltiy.

Stamina has to be trained, correct.

Gameshape can be done both ways. Obviously the smart way to keep high gameshape is to manage minutes properly but you can use your weekly training on gameshape as well.

I'm of the opinion that you should never waste training time on gameshape but I do know some owners that have trained it before important playoff games.

(10821450)Emil played 37 mins last week. He's proficient today's update. The week before that he played 45 mins. He turned proficient at the next update. Two weeks of the number below what people thought was the minimum what a player should get. I just leave this data here for people to think about.

Yeah like they have different range...for example some might be 38-58, some might be 48-58. And my rookie Khai just played 88 last week and maintained proficient (he played 70+ before that too), making a total of 5 straight weeks proficient. Both him and Emil have average stamina. Still, with people saying there's an element of randomness, I can never know for sure...

You need to be careful about looking at a 1-2 week window for a player and making basing any conclusions about that. That is such a small subset of data. Like Ashurri said it does give a person something to think about and possibly something to study with more depth.

I tend to lean towards the random factor though to be honest.

48 isn't the minimum for game shape, it's just the minimum for max training benefit. I've had players improve game shape averaging 30 minutes a week.

While this is true, most of the people that have been around here for awhile agree that 48-72 minutes per week is where you want to be to maintain high GS. 60 minutes being ideal.

You can get lucky with 30 minutes but if you give your player that number every week I find it hard to believe that he'll stay at high GS for very long.
