Cotchin has played multiple seasons and did not miss a game last year along with best and fairest and 15 brownlow votes, the most out of any richmond player, and has also been picked in the all australian squad as a starting center picked by the professional commentators on channel seven after the game between geelong and carlton! A total of 5 richmond players were picked in the team including maric, riewoldt, rance, newman and cotchin!

You clearly know nothing about richmond, trent cotchin or the definition of the word elite!
Richmond will make finals this season, and there is know doubt about it matt!

You know what was a good goal? The Paul Chapman snap that won the 2009 Grand Final. Do you remember seeing Chapman high-fiving the crowd or running around with his arms flailing as if he was the second coming of Diego Maradona? No, you don't. They just got on with the job of winning premierships without all of the prima dona 'look at me, aren't I great' theatrics.

That was the biggest piece of shit "half year" all Australian team I have ever seen!

Cotchin on the bench would be acceptable imo he is fake elite at this stage. Hes in that 2nd tier behind the pendleburys, swan, Albletts of the world

Rance while he has improved and congratulations to him and his family for this improvement he is still on a team that is 5-5 which means they have had 5 scores higher kicked on them! If your job is to defend this is not a good thing.

Maric is debatable, what are his actual ruck statistics compared to other ruckman? No doubt he is mobile and a cult figure for the supporters and players to be inspired by, but is he really the best ruckman out there? He's in on hype atm, maybe as a 2nd bench ruck yes.

Newman. See rance above. You play in defense for a team that is 5-5. The aim of the game is to stop the opponent scoring hence increasing your win column over the loss column.

Riewoldt- wtf? Does a couple of good weeks now make u the all Australian full forward. A month a go this guy was getting bashed for playing a horrible season!

And just to show how rediculous these expert commentators were Lazz they forgot your main man Deledio from the team so they have no credibility. Plus Lewis Jetta made the team so clearly channel 7 are getting in early for April fools

Are you serious?

Not missing a game doesn't make you elite. Neither does receiving the most Brownlow votes at Richmond in a season that you went 8-14, especially considering the winner polled 34...

Winning a Richmond best and fairest doesn't exactly make you elite either. Let's face it, this is the same award that Joel Bowden managed to win back-to-back. You remember him right? Richmond whipping boy of the mid-2000's?

And don't even get me started about the embarrassingly pathetic team picked by Channel 7! This is the same team that has Gary Ablett selected on the Half Forward Flank. The greatest midfielder in the competition on the HF line!? This a guy that has had 42, 40, 45, 33, 33, 29, 25 and 53 possessions in his 8 games this season! That's an average of 37.5 touches per game! If they're selecting a man that's average 37.5 disposals to play on the HF line, I don't think we need to pay attention to the rest of their selections.

I had this same discussion with tremell earlier tonight, they seem to have rewarded players that have improved since last year, or had better seasons in comparison to previous years, rather than guys that are having good seasons, but might not have improved on last year (i.e. because their performances have been damn good in the past and we just expect that from them now). Ivan Maric? Please. Good season? Yes. Improved on last year? For sure. Best ruckman currently in the competition? No. Same goes for Alex Rance, Ted Richards, Leyroy Jetta, Chris Newman...

Going back to your definition of 'elite', you've either got much lower standards than me, or I'm too harsh of a judge. James Kelly is a triple premiership player and an All-Australian midfielder. Do I consider him an elite midfielder? No. I love him, but he's not 'elite' when compared with the likes of Ablett, Judd, Swan, Pendlebury, Selwood. Cotchin is also not in that class.

I never said you don't have a bunch of talented players, but like a lot of Tigers fans you seem to have gotten over-excited about where your club is actually at. Don't fool yourself into thinking you have a bunch of elite player just yet, on the back of a couple of strong performances.

Alright matt!
It seems to me like I cant convince u that cotchin is elte, you are a very harsh judge and you are to stubborn to realise how good trent cotchin is! You clearly dont watch him play that much!
The guys who you named elite... three of them are brownlow medalists for gods sake! are you saying that you have to win a brownlow to be elte! because if that is what you think then you are WRONG!
We have won four of our past five games you said we would lose to the saints when we practically led the whole night, you tipped us to win today and next week which means going into the bye we will be 7-5!
cotchin is only 23yo and he is a freak! I think he is elite because he performs week in week out, and is very consistent! Watch him play for a change and then you will see how good he is!
Who else do we have to beat aside from HAWTHORN BY 10 GOALS to convince you that we are the real deal! Geelong struggled to beat hawthorn earlier this year aswell!
And yes I remember paul chapmans goal, it was just another snap goal except it was in the grand final! those goals happen every week in the afl!
Watch the tigers against fremantle today the tiges should win and cotch and martin and maric will own!
and riewoldt will retake the lead in the coleman!

Lazz, i know that matt watches every afl game every week so he sees them play.

And btw stop bringing up crap of how richmond beat hawthorn and geelong only just beat hawthorn so that must make richmond a super team. Refer to the ladder for your teams positioning. its like saying brisbane is a better team then richmond because they beat west coast and west coast got the better of the tigers...

People have their own definition of elite. I'd probably class it as the top 15 - 20 players in the afl.

Is Cotchin having an elite level season? probably. Would he be in the AA team if selected now? Almost certaintly. Would I class him as elite now? Probably not. I'd like to see him sustain this pace for the whole season - if he does, he can probably be rightfully classified as up there with the top midfielders. He'll almost certaintly get there though, would love to have him at the Eagles...

Tigers are an interesting team. Alot of people are putting 4 or 5 Tigers in their AA teams (I've seen Newman, Rance, Deledio, Cotchin, Maric, Riewoldt, in various team) - which is a number that noone except the dominant team of the year normally gets. And they are what, 10th? Are people getting to sucked in to the hype, or are those selection fair, and the rest of the team below those top 5 or 6 players are just absolutly god awful?

On the flip side, the Eagles are the top team of the year, and at this stage I'd probably put one eagle in the AA team (Waters). Glass or Cox coud go in at a stretch. Its a funny season.

Fremantle. And in Melbourne, nonetheless.

Great call, Lazz.

I think this summed up the entire argument of Richmond fans getting ahead of themselves. It might be difficult to get to 7-5 from here. Some would even say impossible.

I could go and on about their ordinary performence today, but as they say a picture tells a thousand words. This sums up today's game perfectly (I think the one on the left is Riewoldt):http://www.imagebucket.net/bucket/is.php?i=10815&img=....JPG]

Why does Eddie Beets feel the need to run around high-fiving the crowd 5 minutes into the game?

I would think he simply loves the excitement. Some blokes keep it inside...not Betts!

Great win by my boys in shitty conditions (we're from Perth) against the Tigers today. It was good to see us string 4 quarters together.

Enjoy the bye boys...
