Great win despite the funny NZ tactics.
New Zealand vs. Australia 75 - 107
(22342) This was our depth chart and tactics.
Look inside / M2M
PG Euan Bole (strong)/ Lang Ryles (proficient)
SG Brendon Okon (strong) / Royce Radcliffe (respectable)
SF Jakša Škalec (respectable)/ Lin Mingkun (strong)
PF Claus Querido (strong) / Harry McNicholas (strong)
C Moisis Iliakis (respectable) / Zhen Quanfeng (respectable)
Bench: Lawrie Farruggia, Amitabha Aslam
Here are my notes on the game:
Claus Querido was a beast as expected. The defence by all our bigs was great. NZ played LI but their bigs couldn't get going against ours.
Moisis Iliakis shot well but bad rebounding only 6 and took just 7 shots.
Harry McNicholas was awesome probably our 2nd best player, great shooting and rebounding (but apparently against a scrub).
Zhen Quanfeng backed up well. Are his stats up somewhere yet?
Excellent PG play from both Euan Bole and "Mr Controversial" Lang Ryles who did exactly what I hoped and took no 3s just good driving shots.
Royce Radcliffe and Brendon Okon SG was bad for us with them taking 12 shots and making just 3, however they did make up for that a bit by combining for 14 assists which is great for the SG spot. The other bad was the NZ SG was their best offensive player despite being a $15k guy, in respectable GS in a LI offence. This may be more fluke than worry.
Even though he got a +/- of +20 I was very disappointed with Lin Mingkun taking so many shots (17 the most on the team) while making just 5 and forgetting that a SF needs to rebound, having just 2. He was also playing against a scrub he should have dominated. I would still like to see Harry as the starting SF when the right match occurs.
Jakša Škalec had 4 fouls in just 15 minutes, that sort of play can be costly. He seems a bit foul prone so we need to consider his possible opponents.
