I see that we are having some semantic issues. By "has trained" I mean someone who has done it for a while and thus can have a reasonable sample from which conclusions can be drawn.

Imagine you start playing BB and have two exactly equal 18 y.o. players (same skills and height), one with potential A and the other with potential B, with B>A. If you train them for 2 weeks and only the 2nd one pops you may think that higher potential means faster training. But if you keep training for a longer period you will see that this is not the case and that the players improve at the same rate. That's all I'm trying to say, apparently with limited success :P

Just to make this more clear here is the answer:

You said if you had three 18 year olds with these potentials:

1. 6th man
2. All Star
3. Superstar

Your question was this:

If I trained them all equally, will the higher potential players train faster? Or will they all train at the same pace until they reach their potential ceilings?

1. No, the players will all train equally as potential DOES NOT effect the training rate of players. What would effect their training rate is HEIGHT. Shorters players train outside stuff (Jump Shot, Jump Range, Outside Defence) faster. Taller Players train their Inside stuff (Inside Shot, Inside Defence, Rebounding, Shot Blocking) faster.

Hope this helps :)

Does potential number (like MVP-9) means how many years can that player train?

No, ignore the number. Please refer to the FAQ thread in this forum and read the section on potential :)
