it's done to make eBay a profit

And this also has an affect to stop people from wasting everyone's time and their server space by listing products at prices that won't sell.

Also, a little bit of trivial data I collected over the last week as I was trying to sell a player of mine. I was looking at players of similar skills on the transfer market (I'm talking about the upper end players that cost 1 mill+) and I noticed that the clearance rate of these similar players is around 10-15%. So that means for every 10 players transfer listed, only 1 will actually satisfy both buyer and seller's prices.

The majority of prices listed at is way too unrealistic like a 30% surcharge on what the player realistically is worth. These same players just keep coming back up on the transfer list.

If you are a true believer of an efficient market theory then by right if you list a player for $1, then the market will drive his price up to what he is actually worth at that point in time (which takes into account time listed and skills).

true dat. At the moment you can list any player for any amount and hope you catch a bum who has no idea what he is doing, or is willing to pay an extra price for some unknown reasons.

I guess server load could be significantly reduced if some of the ideas mentioned in this thread were implemented.

While it is a noble ambition to "catch a bum", how realistic is it for prices over the initial set-up? I often see players already with bids on them for 200 - 300k, who should be going for pennies, but what chance do you have to catch someone at 1 mil? Bums just won't that kind of cash. You look at these players for 1 500 000 and smile.
Has anyone ever sold anyone like this for 1 mil, or are they just copying one another on the market?
Anyhow the change isn't necessary.

I agree with what you said, but that player is being overpaid for, imo.

Often times sellers not only want you to pay for the training they have recieved and the promise of more pops, but they want you to pay them for all of the training you will give them once he is yours as well. I see young guys with planty of potential on the TL all the time who are priced higher than they will ever be worth even after training two more seasons or more. It's silly. I will pay you for potential, but not my training too.

My suggestion is to have a listing fee every time you TL a player. This fee is 1% of the listing price (assuming 1000 min bet, none of this 1$ crud). This way if you really want to sell a guy and list him for 1k, you lose 10 bucks. If you think your guy is worth 1 mil and he will sell for at least that much, the 10k listing price isnt that big of a deal. However if you insist on listing your 200k guy for a mil every three days, then you will be paying 10k every 3 days to try and find a sucker. Good luck with that.

I agree with that and quite like your idea but I think with a few amendments will be better:

1. Raise the tax rate to 3%-5% as 1% is too little especially when it is common for guys to list them at 1 mill+ (Maybe its just me cause when you are in higher leagues the players you are looking for are 1 mill+ players in the TL) 10k on a 1 mill listing is nothing at all and would not do much to deter listers

2. No tax to be charged if your player is sold. If your player gets sold successfully it means you did not list your player above market means. I don't think charging a listing fee for them is fair as agents already take a proportional of the fee. This should be a phising tax rather than a listing tax

That's one way to go, I suppose, but I wouldnt support that high of a tax myself. The idea from my perspective is to have some consequence to TL spamming and to make managers think more about when and how much to TL their guys for. Too high of a tax will go beyond altering strategy and move into free market limitations and price norming. I think it is imperative that changes dont drastically effect the free market economy. I would prefer a change that rewards responsible TL listing instead of punishing those who like to test the market. Listing a 200k player for 1 mil is going to get costly, but a new change shouldnt completely hammer a guy who lists a 200k guy for 300k.

most new managers don't have 1.9 mil.. if a guy has 1.9 mil to spend then he probably has some experience. If he's been playing for a few seasons and spends it on that guy then he obviously made a really dumb mistake and that's on him. Even so, mistakes made by new managers are part of the game and there is no mistake that a manager can not recover from.
