Well, this is very helpful. It is always good to know what to expect.

I heard yhat people are always kind of disappointed by the results of the draft, and I start to figure out why it could happen.

My tentative conclusions are:
1. A team should not expect a dramatical upgrade via the draft, if I understand correctly, since such an upgrade is rare.
2. Spending 40 000 every weak on scouting was probably a mistake, because I have only a slight chance to get the investment money back.

Investing a lot in scouting is like buying a lottery ticket. The main thing it provides you is hopes

One more thing to consider is where you'll likely be drafting. I'm normally drafting towards the end of the 1st round, so my results are probably worse.

yes. I am the last to draft

Still, the other teams in my league - most of them didn't put much effort into the game, so hopefully, they don't have enough data on the good players to realize how good they are.
Some of them, I hope, will not even edit the draft order so I have my hopes...

Like you said, the draft is a lottery.

Last season I finished first in the 2nd division (with a 21-1 record) and only like 5 active people. I put 20,000 weekly into scouting and drafted a PG, who I sold for 1,2 milion.

This is possible only in bot filled leagues though. In the top leagues with 16 active teams, the draft becomes even more of a lottery than in the 2nd division.

Agreed, in a bot filled league, scouting can be very helpful, because the bots are picking randomly. I have drafted good players, late in the draft when I was in lower divisions with lots of bots.

But in the higher divisions, its much harder. Especially because the weaker teams aren't bots and are looking to the draft to help improve their teams.

go to the conference information on your standing page and look at the manager names.

How would you know if your league has bots?


Under the Big 8 or Great 8, click on Conference Information. Most of the teams will have a Last Seen: 11/11/2008 (or some date similar). If its a Bot, then the field will be absent.
