i dislike emoticons because messages lose ambiguity and irony -- ah well, i'll try to adjust.

i wish everyone a Happy New Year, a 22-0 record and, next year, in Jerusalem!

this may or may not make a difference, but let us see who drew what in the Cup:

NBBA

DII

DIII
Eugene travels to Terre Haute Highlanders

DIV
Window Lickers travel to Palm beach sharks
Bruins travel to Serapo Gaeta

DV and bots
The Hawks travel to Derthick Downtown
Senecaville hosts Hanksville Accidents
Corn Growers host The Beattown Bruisers
Ron Hansen hosts Plevna Privateers
Cyborgs travel to Marco Island Warriors
Chanute travels to Lundsford Corner Mind
Lake Merrit travels to DaThunder
Tucumcari travels to Takotna Percussions
Muppet Honey hosts NY Swaggers
Penlicox Tech travel to Fountain Lake Glass
Redbull hosts Alma Ivory
ChiTown travels to Seth Ward Cadets
Libertines hosts West Rush Bullies

If playing in the Cup is like barreling down I-10 at 2 A.M. through the black, blank, vast, empty west Texas darkness lit only by the stars and the occasional headlight of oncoming traffic -- and i so no reason why it is not -- then 13 of our teams will hit little more than some minor bump, possibly an armadillo, as they cruise to the lonely sounds of a country music station playing the long-forgotten but immortal "yellow rose of texas" by bob wills . . .

Do we really need emoticons? Are we ballers or wussies?

This is way off the bitchassedness meter.

haven't seen too many games with the swing in momentum like the Lake Merritt - Redbull game. Lake Merritt up by 19 at halftime, only to see Redbull come back to tie it and force an overtime.

i swear Coco is cursed -- ruined his week's minutes but, more than that, he has the absolute grumpiest fans in the world. i can understand fans used to NBBA play being upset with having to play against us, but they have never forgiven him, not like the way Steve's fans have more or less forgiven him.

Just a few observations on the new teams in my conference, while waiting for the Cup game . . .

Chanute: what an interesting squad. with a name like Sharpshooters, i get the idea that he favors players that can score, maybe from a distance. regardless, right now gwoodyard has a 10 man squad with one PF, no centers, and 2 SF. i have a lot of respect for SF, and Chanute looks like they have an exceptional one with Martinez. This is fundamentally the squad that got him here (he sold a older C), so we may have us a non-LI approach to offense. The squad is young but thin, and i will be pretty surprised if Chanute does not get a big man sometime soon. that said, with that youth, this team has a very solid core.

Muppet Honey: another interesting bunch. a deeper squad, but with relatively low salaries. however, i'm not sure there are many teams in DII.3 who have quite as many players with double-digit game ratings as the Badgers. by the end of last season she had a squad full of players in the 15 game rating range -- really extraordinary. and remember this is with low salaries. i think Muppet Honey will eventually discover what i did, that at this level, you need some brutes to handle, or at least neutralize, the Trahairs and Goss' monsters so many teams have (see Martinez, above, for a non-C brute). nevertheless, i could see 15 - 16 wins in her first season in DII.

right now, the Great 8 looks quite competitive. heaven help us if we don't get bot teams in the Cup.

I do appreciate the love, and yes a big man is definitely in my future once I get a good handle on cash flows and get some money into my arena. I wish everyone the best of luck this season, and if anyone has suggestions that I can use it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Gwood

I have a suggestion.....you should make the "w" silent....That would be good.
