Now to a less sombre topic. First things first, thanks to Turtle and Bergkamp for their scouting duties this week. Both correctly deduced that Albania would predict that I'd play a fast tactic, which helped to convince me that low post was right for this week.
Of course they didn't suggest I pack the team with big men, but one of my idiosyncracies is that I like to be somewhat creative with my lineups. With the Wasps I've regularly played with four guards and when facing inside oriented teams I've played with two small forwards and two bigger men.
So I decided, in the absence of enough guards in good game shape with inside shooting to go with a big lineup. Scottie Batley, a PF played at SG, and Norman DeSimone, a PF, played at SF. Both were capable enough to play SF in any game and so I was sure they could manage in this game. DeSimone was our top rebounder, and Batley obviously top scored, so I think I can justifiably call it a success.
I'm not pointing this out to say I'm some kind of genius. I'm trying to show people that you don't have to play players in the positions they're listed at. That's only a guide. On my teams I like players who can play multiple positions. In fact, I'd say as you move up the leagues you should be looking at having players who are good both inside and outside. Well, at least as long as the BBs allow us to have lineups like that without breaking the bank.
It was a strong performance on monday, with I think our best ratings of the season. Again, lots of steals and blocks, which are massively important. Each one is a free possession. Stuart Duffie led the way with 4 steals, which together with his 2 blocks, 4 assists, 8 rebounds, 10 points and zero turnovers made him my man of the match, despite Batley's 23 points.
