I attribute Shot Blocking to a couple of important victories of mine this season..

Against my brother in Jap cup final I deliberately played my SF at SG and he got 7 blocks against a Marvellous JS Prof JR 3 point monster... i also had (now sold) a former key PF who amassed a PB 7 SB in a tight league game and I have a regular Centre who against normally better opposition averaging 1.5ish (and the stats are skewed as you know because scrimmages and PL games are not taken into account.)

This is another classic debate with no right or wrong answer.... in the same way people have tremendous JS strong JR players still shooting less than 35% or Prolific RB's with only 8 per game....

Everyone has an opinion and that is why players skills are finally starting to diverge according to peoples personal planning.

So for those that dont believe - dont train... simple as....

exactly.. anyway shot blocking success depends a LOT on your oponent, so that's why are these stats so distorted

Secondly, I notice that my players who have higher block skill indeed average more blocks. Okay we are talking about 0.5 to maybe 2 blocks averageing per game, but still, I see the same persons make the blocks mostly, so I think it works.

Those are not that bad numbers. I see a somewhat different thing happening in my team. In my case the top three guys are however only about 2 or 3 levels better than the best of the rest, so your results are probably more representative. I can't really expect these guys to dominate my stats, but I think they should block a bit more than they do at the moment.

Anyway, my shotblocking numbers seem to go almost hand in hand with playing time. There is what seems a slight positive correlation with regards to the skill level. My top three players (in SB skill) are 1st, 4th, and 7th in blocks average, and they average only 0.4 to 1.1 blocks. The rest average 0.0 (guys with very little playing time) to 1.0 blocks. In MIN, my top three guys are 4th, 3rd, and 7th. In matches played, they are tied for 1st, 2nd, and again 1st. Not that impressive.

i dont get it, just because your not getting the stat doesnt mean its not there.

probably your leagues inside skills are really so much better.

i have a pg who has respectable blocking and guess what his averaging 2.1 blocks a game

that is josh smith like number!

I guess the point of the game engine and the associated statistics is that it should model the RL game as best as possible (this maybe not be true for the game as a whole, because nobody wants to own a team like the Clippers). I think the problem is that the way shot blocking currently works, its not like RL.

Instead of getting rid of shot blocking why not make it more helpful? For example, shot blocking improves a player's inside d or acts as a type of cap on inside d.

I like the number of skills right now. Without SB, inside guys would only have 3 key skills to train.

no matter what you say!

shot blocking is part of basketball and cannot be taken away!

i dont know what his thinking for this, but there is a excitement going to this, you know your defense is working for you!

i hate to say this, but this is like the thread saying about assist though he got prominent or proficient level he still only get less than 5-6 assist per game!

this shouldnt be taken out!

My guess is that SB helps your defense as well. IRL I find it really annoying if all defenders are keeping their arms up, always trying to block the shot. They make it harder for me to take a shot, isn't that part of shot blocking as well?

Wouldn't it be possible that shot blocking contributes a little to both OD and ID? More to ID than OD probably, but wouldn't that be realistic?

I don't think you can conclude wether SB is a valueable skill or not by just looking at the BLK/Game.

I agree with this...but the game engine model needs to do a better job approximating the real game and when it does, it should produce bpg stats that are similar to RL statistics (like it does with the other stats).

still it has to adjust

dalembert can block 7 times a game but at times not even one

nor did okafor

this dimension is important as to play this game, its amazing to see a last shot attempt being block on your stat sheet!
