But claiming that no BB currently has any idea how the GE actually works, is even a bigger problem. That would be admitting, that game creators have absolutely no idea what is going on.

Obviously the creators of the game engine know it and they know it the best. My guess is they are the only ones who really know the GE. Remember that a) this is a code base that has (tens of) thousands of lines, and b) from the technology point of view this is the biggest tangible asset of the company. These guys (is it mainly Charles...? I don't know exactly) are working only part time in BB in addition to having full-time jobs. As far as they have publicly made it known, the key priority for them is to teach the new full-time developers to run the game and get up to speed with the development tasks. I would imagine this includes the GE at least to some degree, although the first priorities are probably some other areas of the game (such as overall site performance). Well, now we know that there will be further delays with the new staff, since two of the latest three additions did not pan out.

The game engine has some known weaknesses and bugs, but it is a great piece of code and works well. As far as I can tell, the game engine is not among the main factors for the site troubles we have seen lately. Naturally it is important for the GE bugs to be fixed and for new developments to take place in this part of the code. These developments however need to take a back seat until the old BB staff can fully concentrate on their own tasks in BB and/or until the new BB staff can take care of it. The situation is not ideal.

I was just having a look at some BB's teams and I'm confused looking at BB-Forrest's team: (22794). Why is his team being managed by a bot?

Ok, now I see the poeriod when he actually went bot, thanks.
I just saw his last login date which wouldn't be long enough ago for this.

Cheers

How about a restaurant. The waiter doesn't make the food, but should he know what's in it? Should he know roughly how it is made? YES.

NO!
they should know how to serve the dishes and how to welcome the people, take orders, NOT what is in the dishes. If they know, fine, but it's not their job to know!

I agree with you and your ideas, but please don't make silly statements.

Customer: "Excuse me, I read pasta with X... how does it taste?"
Waiter: "I don't know"
C: "Ok, and what is carne alla pizzaiola?"
Waiter: "I don't know"
C: "Ok moving on... daily soup made by the chef... what's in it?"
Waiter: "I don't know... please stop asking just order"
C: "Seriously do you even work here?"

In Italy no waiter would answer like this, if in Belgium they do... gosh, I'm very very sorry.

ofcourse not, I just like to give black and white examples, because they tend to make things more clear. In reality it is always somewhere in a grey zone.

The waiter will know certain things, and will be able to answer certain questions. The point was that the waiter is not supposed to know the details. And if he is a good waiter he will answer: it is very good sir, instead of I don't know.
Demanding of people to know every detail of their entire business is just crazy. that's all.

about BBs knowing the GE: I'm throwing a wild guess here, but I thnik it works like this:
Hey Mark,
Hi Charles,
and, did you think about our concept to start that new game?
Yes, I have, I think it's a good plan.
Ok, let's go for it!
So what would the GE need to do?
This and that
and that, and that.
after some weeks work and branistorming they have a concept of what the GE should do.
Ok, we have the plans, now let's execute them.
Mark, will you take the part of the timer? I'll start on the offenses
Ok, and aftert that I will start defenses modules and you can see if you can do the blockmodule.

tasks are being deivided, and both do their share of programming. In the end the link all modules
This is typical for every software company where multiple programmers work: each gets his own module to create, in the end the put the modules together to get the entire program.
So could this be the reason who no BB knows THE ENTIRE GE ???

I'm not saying everyone needs to know the whole code. I just would like to know: who has the knowledge about skill weights per positions and how different tactics multiply those skills with constants. There can be 10000 lines of coding in the GE, but someone with any coding exp can withdraw that info from the GE in 5 min or less (if every BB wants to or even has access to that code is a whole other question). The fact remains the old BB's must know those facts (they were just too busy with the game itself, to actually be able to use the knowledge on the TL) and sooner or later some new BB will know those facts. Now it's up to the community he is playing in, to accept his playing or not. If he makes to the BBB, those managers should also be asked for acceptance of his participation in such a tournament.
I still do not have an answer to my questions. Why is this questions answer being dragged out so long by BB's?

I think there already are replies from Marin and Ryan stating that they do not know the specifics of the game engine, and that they do not think it is necessary to remove them from the competition. It is also pretty safe to assume that Mark and Charles are in the know. While the BB's read the bug forum, you can't really expect they all read it or that they all will answer this sort of question.
