So, I always ask the same question, but I'll put a slightly different spin on it this time.

It's the worlds. Getting into the semifinals requires us to win the last game. With a normal it's 55/45 in our favor. With a TIE it's Y/(100-Y), with Y<50.

What is the largest Y such that you'd rather normal?



A lot of outside factors such as current enthusiasm, likely semifinal opponent, likelihood of winning it all are out there, but I would say Y would have to be around 40-45. I don't like going into any make-or-break game as a huge underdog (duh). Building enthusiasm is nice, but not at the risk of not making it to the next round. I don't think a Normal mortgages the future rounds too badly.

Now if it were like this year's Worlds where we knew we'd likely play Poland in the semis, then I could take Y down to 25 or 30%. That's more of a "go big or go home" scenario where we would need every ounce of enthusiasm to defeat the Goliaths. I'd rather we have a fighting chance at making the finals rather than saying "but hey at least we made it to the semis!".

1. Communications- I am not a shy person and as manager I want ot communicate with my country as much as possible to try to get input and more support.

To all Candidates:

One of the biggest issues I've seen is trying to keep potential NT players on US soil. The best example I can give is last year right after I started, there were two U21 quality players in my draft, my own top draftee and another player Norman Sloane.

He got trained for only 4 or 5 weeks last year after being bought by a Finnish team and is now doing nothing but sitting there.

My question is, do you have any plans on how to get the USA community more involved in keeping our young prospects on home soil?


Yes, a way to solve this problem is getting more people interested in the NT and U21 team. This way they want to contribute to the teams. Also by telling them that if they have a player on one of them teams it brings an economic boost. Also having a US player bring a merch. boost because fans like buying US born players' jerserys.

@GM-Jason & @nammsor - IMO you two are the top candidates so far. In an attempt to separate you two, I have three questions :

1) If Lundy had been walking on the street for days, 3 weeks late for a shower, and STILL not in 9gs, do you offer to pick him up?

2) How far in advance do you think its necessary to game plan when considering call ups and enthusiasm? With a limited roster before it hurts overall enthusiasm, what might your strategy be?

3) What use would you get out of the offsite? Regardless of what you use for it now, what would your plans for the future be?


1 - I would pick Lundy up, and promptly drop him off at the gym so he can get a shower and get into better Game Shape.

2 - When I was the manager of New Zealand's NT for 6 seasons, I tried a few different methods of callups. My first go-round I just added 16 or 17 players right away, not really knowing what I was doing. As the season progressed, I found new talents and realized how dumb that strategy was. So now I'm a fan of starting off slow, with 12-14 players in the early stages of qualifying and working in new players as injuries or GS or tactics dictates. Especially in the early Americas stages, we don't need to be overly robust with our roster.

3 - The offsite is the end-all be-all of the NT. Everything is there that we need. It's a phenomenal community we're building and I'm proud to see how it's grown since I joined it way back in early 2009. I even remember the old offsite that we had before the current one. Every gameplan will be up there, I'll be asking for volunteers for an assistant coach and international scout, much like I was last season for jfarb.

Namssor has experience at being a NT manager so it won't be new to him. He was successful at NZ, surely he deserves a chance at USA NT. Jason can wait for now.

I DONT KNOW( imagine i said that with the same tone of Brick from Anchor man when he was asked where he got that hand grenade)...lol I just figured I'd start today off with some very serious grilling questions so we as attentive voters can accurately choice the guy we have to put up with for two more seasons

We have a lot of great outside shooters. Unfortunately, we play all our games indoors.

No I would certainly hand this off to someone else. I'd be taking applicants for the job. Jason would be a good candidate since he has the enthusiasm but not the experience for the job, and this would certainly help.

I referenced this in an earlier answer here: (191253.114) (last paragraph). Yes it's a big problem that our talent is being shipped off to Siberia and being shackled in a cage with no room for improvement. We need to work with the American managers and talk to them and give them different options with what to do with their players. If they're becoming too expensive for their team, I can give them training advice for getting useful, but not salary-spiking, pops. If they absolutely have to sell them, I would tell them to let me know so I can broadcast it on the offsite so lots of interested American teams can get an opportunity to grab him off the TL and keep training him correctly. We can't let these prospects fly under the radar and out of the NT.
