Teams that have success in BB, typically train there own star players.
I have to disagree.
The quickest way to succeed is to pay as little as possible for someone else to do as much training for you as possible. You should be trying to add sufficient enough value to your trainees as possible in order to re-sell and accumalate money and when you spend you ideally want to use your money on a 75-85% completed player (someone you plan to keep) to polish and customise according to your tactics.
Spending mega millions on trainees or lvl 6-7 coaches in my opinion is a waste and a sure fire way to fall behind your rivals - let them do the hard work whilst you continue to pick up players like mentioned above that can help you compete faster and smarter.
I completely agree especially to the last part. About the first one, i am not a good trader, (day trading) and its not my style. What i can say is my teams example. I've bought 1 C Allstar potential just for 100k, using 4 level trainer 2 positions. Now that player is 21 and only 3 pop ups away from his soft cap. I am using level 4 trainer. Ive bought him for just 224k, having 11k salary. If i had spend double that money for level 5 trainer with way higher salary, the result would be 2-3 weeks faster training. Are those weeks so important to spend 1M more for his development? In my opinion no. Now i can (and i will) sell him for around 3-3.5M. Actually i will wait the time before the play offs to sell him when the prices are going sky high.
Maybe when u have 2 great potential trainees, especially if they are big men to spend much money for 5+ trainer. If not value for money its not something that i like. Saying that i want to point also that being 1st division team with 283k salaries my income is around 400k per week. Imagine how low is 3-4 divisions.
Training is a big part of this game, but at the end of the game our main goal is to win. Training its just 1 part of it not everything.
So every time that someone is asking me for advice about the staff i am always saying about the golden mediocrity. Level 4, max level 5
