1> How often do you switch training type? 5-6 weeks or do you wait for a specific guy to pop. I am sure there are variables but just in general or some scenarios?

When I started out, I was training inside guys - PF/C primarily. I would rotate between inside shot, inside defense, rebounding, and shotblocking. Pretty much two weeks of each.

For those weeks where you just have two games (which happens during the all-star break if you're not in the cup and at the end of the season if you're not in the finals), a some stamina or free throw training fits nicely.

sorry for this silly question, but which gets used first, backups or reserves? I did a word search in the rules and couldn't find which one it is :(

Backups.

For what it's worth, I quite often have my starting five, five more guys as backups, and then two guys cover the reserve spots. When I do that, the reserves almost always get zero playing time.

thanks, I figured it was about something like that.

couple more questions for you:

1) I sold out my arena tonight on the first match of the season. I don't want to spend money building the arena bigger quite yet, so I was thinking about raising the cost of tickets. how much do you think I could raise them by? I stomped on my opponent's in the match by 40 points so I'm hoping that the fans will be happy, plus next match I'm playing a team that is really weak and hasn't been logged in for a few weeks.

2) What do you tend to tell your coach as to the depth chart? I've been keeping mine around 'coach picks from depth chart'. What are the advantages/disadvantages to having strict/liberal coach orders?

3) How important is it for teams to 'take it easy'? What impacts the rate of enthusiasm declining? In hattrick the coach's leadership dictates how quickly team spirit will drop over the course of the week.

After winning my first match and (hopefully) getting some good trainees and a better trainer, I'm feeling like I understand the game a bit better and am enjoying it. I'll just need to remember to keep setting orders since there are so many more matches each week compared to HT!

I am fairly new too so this is just my opinion.

1. Raise ticket prices slowly. Fans seem to be really sensitive to dramatic price increases. If you still fill up raise slowly again.

2. Depth chart arranging seems to be more for training purposes-at least at my level. I tell my coach to strictly follow depth charts so I can control a bit who gets minutes for training purposes. You can also control who gets substituted for who.

3. I have found take it easy to be a very valuable tool. I suspect it is even moreso for top level teams who know for a fact they can win playing take it easy. It's a lot like hattrick-TIE if you know you will win or lose, particularly if the game is followed by a winnable game.

Now with the fan survey in place that adds another element to playing TIE. Example-I played TIE in a game last year when I knew I was in the playoffs. Unfortunately my box score said "one team did not show up", or something like that. I have no idea what that did to my fan survey.

Remember that you can change the ticket prices only once per month. (Well, you can change them 100 times a day if you will, but the system checks the price changes only once a month.)

dray gave some good answers. I'll chime here in with my opinions.

I would definitely raise the prices. Perhaps not to the max, though, but if you're selling out, then the sweet spot is certainly above your current prices. I doubt anyone knows exactly how far. I suppose the easy answer is to say that if you've raised prices and still sell out, then you didn't raise them enough. :) The other easy answer is to look at other teams that have started maybe a month before you and that have had early success - your crowds will be similar to theirs, but a month behind, so you can probably improve on their profits.

2) What do you tend to tell your coach as to the depth chart? I've been keeping mine around 'coach picks from depth chart'. What are the advantages/disadvantages to having strict/liberal coach orders?

I tend to go with the default option - let coach decide - mostly because I'm used to it. The only time I really move away from that is if I'm really focusing on training, like if a trainee needs to get 48 minutes of playing time at a position, in which case I'll put the player in as starter, backup, reserve, and have the coach strictly follow the depth chart.

3) How important is it for teams to 'take it easy'? What impacts the rate of enthusiasm declining? In hattrick the coach's leadership dictates how quickly team spirit will drop over the course of the week.

Taking it easy is pretty important. It's similar to PIC in Hattrick in that it gives your team enthusiasm a boost and playing with higher enthusiasm helps your team perform better. I forget exactly what the enthusiasm impacts - I think it helps rebounding and defense. Someone who knows more can correct that. As far as the enthusiasm levels falling naturally, I would assume that the trainer's skill level impacts that, but I don't know that for certain.

After winning my first match and (hopefully) getting some good trainees and a better trainer, I'm feeling like I understand the game a bit better and am enjoying it. I'll just need to remember to keep setting orders since there are so many more matches each week compared to HT!

Congrats on the first win. :)

There's a lot to get used to here, but it eventually starts to make sense. And yeah, setting orders three times a week is something to think about. (And if you get supporter, you can play in a private league, which gets you an additional game each week. I actually like this feature a lot, as it allows me to see how my team performs in various situations without any negative effect.)

Good luck!

I had a really good year last season (my first), so I expanded my arena quite a bit. Attendance grew pretty steadily and came pretty close to selling out in my first game this season. But I can already tell my team is not going to be that competitive in D3, so I may regret the expansion. But it's something to keep in mind. The jump to the next division may not be a permanent one.

oh man... this might be the most frustrating thing ever! Losing for most of the game, come back in the fourth quarter, tied for the last 15 seconds of the match, get a 3 off with 1 second remaining, get fouled, put in the last of the 3 free throws, opponent calls a full time out, and sinks the last shot to win by 1 point in the last second. Freaking heart stopper that I thought I had won... grrr... and to an opponent who logged in for the first time in 4 weeks...

So now I know that I need to bump up my free throws. I could have built a palace with the bricks my boys were throwing up.

Anyway, on to the question I have this time around: how many fouls are the guys allowed in the game? I thought they were booted after 5 fouls, but I had two guys playing with 5 fouls.

Thanks, I got worried when two of my key players got to 4 fouls, and then was confused when they got their 5th foul but still played anyway. I guess I'm too used to high school rules :)

On to another set of questions. Here is the situation that I am in:

I TIEed my game tonight so my enthusiasm is at 7. My next match is a cup match against a bot, and the match after that is against a brand new user who just got a team this week (my team is maybe 3 weeks old). My good players have all played more than 48 minutes (more in the mid-50s range).

So...

1) How much of a drop in ratings would I get if I TIEed the next match too?

2) How much will my players' game shape be impacted by their playing 50 some-odd minutes this week?

3) How much more badly will they be impacted if they played another game?

4) If I don't TIE the next match, what would my enthusiasm be for the next league match?

5) Also, would somebody be willing to take a look at my last match and let me know what could have been better? (8785815)
