One of the things our current pair of coaches seems not to have done so well is to really increase community interest here in the US.

If only there was a way to post press releases on the NT page...

On a serious note, I'd love to hear the answer to this.

I know when we had the chat, we got 20+ people for Reed Mcallister's shining moment.

I want to increase things as well.

Are those threads in global? I think a certain number of us are just weary of that morass.

I do have a question for the BB hat though - why should we care about the national team as club owners? We don't get anything from it (well I guess I do occasionally get to see how Qu plays at positions other than PG but I would get the same from private leagues). I've always found the breaking up by country in online sports games to be odd to say the least. The only case I can make for it in my mind is that you want to give people a chance to communicate with people who speak the same primary language, so why not create X language leagues? This would also lead to more balanced league structures as leagues as added as demand dictates.

There are a ton of NT threads on BB USA.

Ah, gotcha. I thought BB-Charles might be referring to other ones. Looking at the list of topics in BB-USA I think the question could be expanded to why do so few USA users post in BB USA?

I will admit, I have never really spent much time posting in BB USA or following the US NT or U21 in about 2 seasons. It's not from a lack of communication from the NT coaches to the population, I think the level of communication that Juice and Brian have shown, exceeds more than what I anticipated. As for my lack of interest of late, ever since I got rid of my star center who was a backup for the NT for 2 seasons, there hasn't been much the NT can offer at this point. I still follow games from time to time, but I don't know many of the players on it, so it makes it tougher.

I honestly believe that I may not be alone on this either. I think the NT and U21 is more interesting for those that have players on it, than for those that have tried time and time again to get a player trained up there, only to find they've been bested by 10 other players at the same position, and then lose interest, just a little bit. It's part of the reason why I've stopped trying to train American players. It's just too tough to get a player up there and even considered.

I don't know if I'm making any sense at all, but I hope it sort of helps on why at least one manager hasn't been posting in BB USA or following the teams. I think both coaches have done an excellent job in the position, and it's tough to see Brian not running again, but I'm sure whoever takes over will do just as good a job, if not better.

One of the things our current pair of coaches seems not to have done so well is to really increase community interest here in the US. We regularly get out-posted by 5-1 or worse from tiny countries like Brasil and Argentina even when Grubbs is busy blowing them off the court.

This is a really hard question. I don't really agree with Coco about the "black box" approach we've had... for those who've posted in the off-site forum, we've had the opportunity to view and debate rosters, tactics and enthusiasm settings for nearly every NT game. One of the complications is that these are necessarily sensitive topics, which precludes us from posting these things here. Even player ratings, which have been posted on the site, are best kept there to prevent other teams from scouting us too easily.

That said, there are things we can do to facilitate user interaction.
(1) Continue to make effort to post more in the BB forums (realizing many users won't come to the off-site forum) for things like game threads, current rosters and tracking lists, etc where we're not compromising the team.

(2) What is clear, I think, is that people get interested when their players are involved. Of course, with <18 players on the team this isn't a whole lot of teams. But, including the ~140 19+ players we're tracking, and the 209 on the preliminary list of 18 year olds, a lot more teams can be involved. So, I think we can do a better job communicating with teams training tracked players, perhaps by adding a web interface to the NT db for US managers to track their players, update ratings, and see how their players stack up. This actually gives two really useful outcomes: (a) managers can be more involved during the season in their NT-quality players, and see how they're progressing, what the player needs, etc, and (b) allows us to get mid-season ratings updates (normally we can only do this for non-team players between seasons otherwise we suffer and enthusiasm hit by adding/removing players).

(3) Fix up the off-site forum to make it a more useful resource for debating tactics, etc leading up to NT/U21 games. Of course, people still need to go to the forum. One way to do this is to make the discussion more globally useful. So, instead of just posting a roster/tactics as we do now, expand this to include some scouting of the opposing team, their recent tactics, etc, to make it a useful resource for users interested in getting a better handle on the process of choosing tactics. Hopefully this would be a draw for some of our newer managers who are still figuring out the ins and outs of choosing lineups/tactics for their league games.

For what it's worth I am endorsing you. This means you will probably lose the election but it's clear you have a solid philosophy on where to take the team.

It is quite possible we will be working together next season.

Cheers,
~Dan

I am endorsing Cocololomomo as well b/c I know how good he is at game planing, and He has done a great job mentoring me. I believe he is great person to trust with developing our country's talent. I am not endorsing him out of a personal bias but b/c of his skill and knowledge when it comes to BB. Best of luck to everyone and Go USA.

Best Regards

BBGM
