Can't we settle this with a fight somehow? Like get smallfrie, magiker, and oriole in a ring, last man standing wins.

Glad Buckeyefan you are taking this more seriously, but if you had planned on taking this more seriously than last time around, why didn't you get involved at all during the last term? Other 3 candidates were very involved. Hope you will be more active in the future.

As you guys think ahead to being the U21 coach...what do you foresee as being the most challenging part of leading Team USA? Not in relation to winning or losing, or how we match up....but in terms of day to day, or week to week activities...From what you know of what it takes to be an NT coach, what do you anticipate being the most difficult part in running the team?

The most challenging part of leading a USA NT will be communication and generating interest. I feel that the most important role of the coach is to have constant communication on the off-site about tactics, call-ups, and training strategies, and to involve as many people as possible. In addition, it's imperative that as a NT coach, I do whatever I can to generate interest in the team and get other US managers to train U21 players. This is the easiest way to achieve long-term success, but the hardest to accomplish.

Great answer. Fortunately you already have a solid rapport with the community and people value you your input, so that really helps!

That's not what I said

I said that the U21/NT manager is not leading if he listens only to other people. I'm not going to do that. Am I going to do it some? Yes, every past manager has listened to their help at some point. However is there sometimes where listening to their help would be the wrong decision? Absolutely. So I plan to listen to me too. That's not a conflict of leading.

Also I'd like to add that this conflict has been faced by EVERY U21/NT manager in the past.

All of the candidates answers to this question, are difficulties that are perennial challenges to the manager. So be cautious about who you call out next time....

If your biggest problem is leading why are you even running?

Actually Orioles answer was very good, and shows he gets it. As the NT community has grown, and more of the top players in USA basketball have become more and more involved in the tactical discussions, it's very challenging to "lead" a certain direction that you feel is right when you have 3 NBBA guys saying to do the exact opposite. So indeed, leading, and keeping the community satisified with your leadership decisions is one of the most challenging aspects of being NT coach.

The question becomes, from what you (the voters) know of the 3 actual contenders (Magiker, Oriolekid, Smallfrie) which of them do you feel the most confident in, that if they make a decision they believe is right, but might not be the how the majority of the community feels, has the best chance to lead us to victory and keep the program on an up swing?

Based on my previous post covering tactical discussions with the community and either going with the flow, or against the grain, I have a new question:

For: Magiker, Oriolekid, Smallfrie

The 3 of you have been very involved in the offsite fourm in the discussion boards, and on the USA chat as well. Give a couple of examples where you had interaction with the community and/or a current NT coach (current at the time, not just with Rambo or myself) where you felt your input was greatly valued, and even bonded you to the community in some way. Also, cite an example or two where your input caused some friction or you you kind of felt alone in your opinion.

Before answering this I have a question. You want us to tell you about when our input was greatly valued. In what way are you asking? Ive contributed with a lot of things such as scouting, helping owners train players, putimg myy own opinion out there about call-ups, as well as my opinions on tactics to use. What exact inputs are you asking for?

As far as an input that caused friction, well I wouldnt necessarily say it caused friction but it did cause a little bit of a debate between me and a few NBBA managers. It was halfway through this past season when I felt Jimmie Brown needed to be coming off of the bench in a LI offense. Around that same time I lobbied for Goddard being called up due to his 7 IS to help out in the offense. I felt Brown needed to be benched because he didnt have the best IS and although he technically was our best guard I didnt feel he fit into a LI starting rotation. I kept that opinion for half a season and always got the remark that he was the best guard and had to start. I think Stauder was one of the few that believed me. I was quite shocked when the last game of the season, the championship, Rambo had him coming off of the bench. I think that opinion shows that just because a player may have the best abilities on the team does not mean he.will start if I am coach. Not all players play great in every tactic and I will bench that "great" player if its a tactic he is weak in.

Interactions with the community I have quite a bit with. I was an 18 y/o scout for three seasons, and for what it's worth have been on the offsite forum longer than any of the other candidates, but that simply means I had more opportunities at scouting endeavors and gameplanning. I also started a U20 camp, but that didn't last long due to RL problems.

I advocated Forrest Machado to the staff for a while before he was called up and when he was actually called up he was very solid in the 6 games he played. And I was one of the people that advocated Jimmie Brown until he was finally called up at the age of 20. I also occasionally give output on peoples trainees and training plans on the offsite forum. Most of my offsite contributions have come more with scouting than gameplanning. My line of reasoning is that we have a dozen guys helping the U21/NT manager out. Basically what I believe has almost surely been brought up already, and you'll only really see me gameplan if the decision is almost split, or to bring up a point everyone is overlooking or missing.

The last season I didn't really have an argument or disputes with Rambo since I wanted LI every single game of the season, and he did run LI every season. There was some chatter of R@G over the course of the season but I didn't believe that our R@G offense would be better than our LI offense.

The times that I can recall where I was alone in my decision are both the American final games under Rambo and Jason, and I think I also did it with Jelme and Jfarb. The America's finals are always glorified scrimmages that don't mean anything, so I always want to do some crazy lineup to run because we can. Mostly I was told "We made it this far. Why try to not win?". That semantics of that bothered me, but really it depends on how much you like a gold trophy compared to a silver one.
