I agree & disagree. We need to find some special players with unique skill sets to give us an edge against the big nations. But we also need guys with some massive primaries especially in defence to stop their monsters at SG or C depending on what they run. Cute players are my trademark, but you can't get away with low defence & at the NT level that needs to be 18+ which is in short supply for us.

I have done my best to make a solid NT PG with Kawagichi at superstar potential but it is so hard. I have even kept training him well beyond his cap which is very slow but whenever I do 2 position I try to include him. Got him to $110,000 & 113 TSP which is about as well as I can do although anytime if his JS HA or DR pops he will have a salary jump.

Where the (expletive deleted) did I say "low defense"?

You didn't say low defence but you did say

Yet again, I will stress the opinion that if we continue to play the same game as the big nations, we are doomed to, at best, mediocrity.

We have to be willing to experiment, and as a nation get behind such experiments. Only if we find an edge can we compete with what has become a mere numbers game.

Big nations have HoF players with 20 defence. You want to experiment with different builds. I am pointing out that we can't compromise defence. Get angry!!!!!!

Get angry? No... I could laugh at your naivety, but it's more a "shake-my-head" moment.
You do realise that no matter what defensive system played, you need high defense... right? I know it's a silly question to ask, but you seem very, very confused about what is meant by "willing to experiment".

The issue has always been LI.
And to a lesser extent the inability of ANY defense to stop it. Now... perhaps part of it might be having high SB in conjunction with ID (and possibly OD), but given everyone was discussing LI, I thought it pretty obvious that we were discussing offense. My bad, I had not realised you needed it completely spelt out.

That's the kind of process I am thinking. Kind of. Thing is, it's kinda "bass-ackwards" a bit. For LI, we need to come up with a defensive scheme (defense+build) that renders it a weaker performer. That's the key. It doesn't matter if we can't come up with an offense that "beats LI" - we simply need to score more with the same offense if needs be. Thus... stopping it. I know that it's not a simple task, and will prove difficult... but in line with what wolph just suggested - I've even had conversations with Swoosh about my willingness to work SB into K-Mat's build, at the expense of a little ID.

Offensively, we can either continue LI, or come up with a scheme that benefits from being played vs M2M. My guess would be a very high amount of handling/passing and maybe even driving - even on bigs - combined with motion or R&G.
Just a thought... again, all of these come at a sacrifice of something else. But (regardless of some nay-sayers here) we're NEVER going to compete much higher than we are now following suit with those ranked better than us.

Kishita fouls out in 21 minutes? May have to switch to stamina training this week. :(

Gotta say, happy to see K-Mat have this game. I don't think he's had a dominant game in the NT this season - regardless of opponent. Overall, our bigs smashed theirs. And Lubnan's bigs are the strong aspect of their team.
Funny how only a few seasons ago we were bemoaning the lack of depth in the front court for the NT...
