Perhaps Argentina feels they need more inside defense to compete with the inside scoring of other NTs...?

I think it's just a matter of scarcity. Like in HT, taken as a group, people want offense for their team before defense. Probably just human nature, combined with the mindset of the dominant demographic playing this game.

I just ran a couple of quick transfer list searches:

proficient JS, respectable OD: 5
vice versa: 0

proficient IS, respectable ID: 14
vice versa: 5

(I think those are right, forgot the exact numbers already.)

I can also tell you from my experience with the Canadian NT that I have no players with a defensive skill anywhere near the player with the highest complementary offensive skill. I don't think I'm giving away any secrets here... I expect it's the same across BB.

Anyway, I think the point I'm trying make is that strong offensive players are easier to come by than strong defensive ones. If I'm an NT coach and I see a well-balanced NT prospect, it probably makes sense to try to steer him into becoming a more defensively oriented star, since there are already going to be 5 players just like him that are going to become offensively-geared, without any intervention.

Edit: This all presumes that for two players with everything the same, except one has defense x and offense y, and the other offense x and defense y, each player has equivalent value in a game. In a game like HT, for example, where (IMO) defense was not (ever?) properly weighted, this wouldn't hold.
