48 minutes means that he played more than 47, but less than a full 48 (for example, fouling out with 10 seconds to go in the 4th would cause this).

The training difference between 48 and 48+ is not large enough to sacrifice a full week of training for another player. The same thing happened to me this week--my trainee got 46 minutes--even then, I decided to train a 3rd player rather than maximize the minutes of the guy with 46.

Anyone else have an opinion on how much difference that fraction of a minute makes? I'd love to hear from someone who is at least in the Top 10k (thus ensuring they know what they are talking about).

Common knowledge and research indicates around 80% training from 46+ minutes compared to 48. If you want to disregard that information, that's fine. I'm not 10K or better, so apparently I don't know anything.

Sorry to be passive aggressive here, but if you want answers, especially in a game like this, you can't rely on World Rankings. I've seen just as much misinformation that's later been corrected by D.I and D.II players as I have seen great information astutely gained by D.IV and D.V players.

My world ranking is inside of 10k and I could not answer your question. I agree that ranking is not a guarantee of knowledge. However, there is probably a correlation between ranking and game knowledge. Yet, a correlation is not certainty.

All I know is the penalty for not getting a full 48+ is too harsh.

I had a smartass answer ready about cooking an egg, but I've scrapped it and I'll just tell you that the prevailing wisdom is that there is very little difference between 48 minutes and 47 minutes, and I'd even go so far to say that anything 45 or above is probably fine. Personally, I don't make any special effort to get a guy minutes for training unless he needs 10 or more.

For what it's worth
I've had 2 players foul out at 44 to 47 minutes in the last 2 weeks and fretted for nothing
since I was training 3 one position point guards
thankfully both popped that week in the needed area
