For salary there are nice calculators to give you an rough estimate:

(100218.2)

i prefer the coach parrot for it, but also the very nice Buzzermanager give you a nice overview about the estimated salarys of your players.

What to do next it quite difficult, because he is on his first step of a very long road and could use training in every skill.

For your actual performance, i tend to train OD to 10 or 11 first, and for getting a very nice player i would train him out of position as much as you can(depends on your weekly schedule).

For the best result in training speed, a balanced or a driving/handling heavy player will be best. So there are still many possible ways you can continue to train your player, and it is nearly impossible to make a big error while training him so long you will train him.

i would also prefer training OD. It goes well at 18. then maybe 1v1 for some driving/handling pops

train od for the rest of the season. training OD later is slow and torturous. Then I would train only OD passing and 1v1 for gaurds next season.

dependinh on training speed this is a bad advice, cause OD get slower like the other skills and your training generally get slower through elastic effect. It could make sense for the competion, but not for training speed.

Yes. I meant competition mainly so that he doesn't get blown out.... but also because OD seems to take longer than all other skills when a player is not 18.

if the reduction of pace for every training is liek ten percent that quite equal when you train the slower one or the faster one. But if you build inbalanced player it is most likely that player will train slower in general, i make a exception for driving in this case.

I usually like to set up an elastic effect so bad DR/HA doesn't drag down OD training. So I would advice after each OD pop you do one week of 1 on 1. It will also help PA and JR training later on too.

If you can't do that, you can do two weeks of 1 on 1 after every two pops of OD.
