It would be nearly impossible to catch up to the best teams. Also, for suggestions, use this folder:http://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/forum/read.aspx?thr...

It's not directly correlated with making the playoffs/not making the playoffs, but your record from the season before always has a pretty strong impact on next season. I.E.- making it to the playoffs doesn't get you that boost, but the fact that you win 18 (or whatever #) of games to get there does. In theory there's a loophole because you could win 16 games (or whatever) and miss the playoffs and still benefit the same as a 17 win team that did make the playoffs, but that's almost a moot point.

It's also not a huge boost, but I can't remember ever having a playoff game that wasn't sold out, so there's a minor revenue boost there as well.

To note, I'm not disagreeing with you at all, in fact I agree with your proposal, and I especially wasn't a huge fan when playoff revenue split became 50/50, this is just my thoughts for the rationale behind it all.

I agree with 99% of what u said. the part where you said san Antonio didn't tank is kinda false. they did tank and got Tim Duncan.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

Wakes, I wasn't aware of the effect of regular season record on the next season's ticket revenues (I've been promoted/relegated every season I've played so far). That does ameliorate the situation somewhat, but I still think (as apparently you do as well) that there should be SOME kind of boost for making the playoffs or getting a higher seed in the playoffs.

Re: the discussion about the NBA---I'm talking about BB, not RL. What happens in the NBA definitely cannot be assumed to translate to this game. Interesting discussion, but not quite on point for the issue I was asking about.

As far as "It would be nearly impossible to catch up to the best teams," wouldn't the fact that the higher teams get promoted take care of that? I mean, the best teams won't even be in your league any more! You could also reduce the payout in the very highest leagues where champions stay put.

Aye- it's the top part of fan survey. A few seasons back, I finished 12-10 and got to the finals, losing in 3 games, and still only had 2.5 balls on that category for the season. It's been much different the past few years despite the same final result. It seems a good record matters the most for that category. I'd imagine eventually there will be some form of boost for making the playoffs, but the glitch they've fixed for now is to mitigate some of the advantage offered for coming in 5th place, which while it sucks for a good team (losing ticket revenue) it ultimately is a good idea. Something just needs to change, like you said, where maybe the ticket revenue is multiplied, as real life playoff tickets are higher than regular season.
