I can not train my players anytime I do they decrease in whatever skill for some reason. If I want to train my young guys do I have to play them in scrimmages etc? Also when I want new players there are always these awful overpriced players in the Transfer list where can I find exclusive players that are at a reasonable price, help please thanks!,

The players who are trained are the ones who play in games for you, so if you're training Passing for PG, for example, only the players who played in the PG position in games for you that week will receive training (and if they play fewer than 48 minutes that week, the amount of training they receive will be reduced accordingly). Your five players under age 23 have not played at all this season, so they have received no training; I assume that the players who you are playing are the ones over age 33 and therefore they're going to be dropping in skill (and there's a theory that training those players actually causes faster skill drops, but it's just a conjecture).

I would highly, strongly, emphatically recommend reading through the BB guide and FAQ at (144856.1) -- some of the details are no longer accurate as time has elapsed, but in terms of learning the basics of the game and especially figuring out how training works, it is great.

For a player to get full training, he must play at least 48 minutes over the course of a week, at the position you have selected to train. In other words, if you want to train Jump Shot for Guards, the only players who will train that week are those who have played at either Point Guard or Shooting Guard. You have three opportunities to get your players minutes during the week: two league games and one scrimmage. If your younger players play for 48 minutes over the course of these games, they will likely pop their skills before long.

Also, players over the age of 33 tend to lose skills quickly with age. You currently have 6 players on your roster who are over 33, and 2 more who are 33 right now. That is why you are seeing so many drops each week; the older a player gets, the more his skills decline.

As far as the transfer list and price of players goes, unfortunately that's just the way the game is right now. If I were you, I'd sell off some of those old guys and other guys who don't play, and try to trim your roster to 12-14 players. Then you will earn more money to spend on the transfer list. You can also get more money by expanding your arena. Even though you have to pay a fee up front, it will pay off in the long run.

If you have any other questions, you can feel free to BB-Mail me!

Which details are no longer relevant? For us newer guys

Anything that involves player salaries (especially the draft part where it gives projected salaries by the current ability ball rating). Salary formulas have changed to the point where it's really not useful to use the range in the post any more.

The draft advice and scouting investment is also dated. Since the time that was written, more options have been added to be able to determine current player skills, so having more skill points is helpful - and more importantly, unusued scouting points now carry over from season to season, so there's a strong case to invest 10k every week as long as it's affordable, even if you don't need them this season.

It's also a little behind the times with the economy - I don't think the salary floor or luxury tax existed when written, and if it mentions promotion bonuses that would be outdated.

It's definitely still a great overall guide for what it has, though. It used to be what came up if you hit the Help option on the menu, but that now goes to the tutoring thread (which is also a useful resource).

I think that should read "unused scouting points."

Although, let's think about unused skill points ...
