Yes, the Cup is an absolute lottery ... that can affect the regular season and the economy of the teams that play at the limit. Maybe it should be regulated?

I'd like it better if the Cup went best to worst...but I remember seasons when I had a pretty bad team, and a lucky draw that got me a couple extra rounds was a real blessing (for cash and/or game shape). Having a random draw is probably more pleasing to newer players, and the game needs all the new players it can get.
I'm not really against the random draw. I'm just bummed it went against me this season.

I forgot to set my lineup for my first cup match. Forfeit due to fire sale in the offseason. :(

My quality SF went out too. Both teams injured and limping to the finish line.
