I believe once your player is sold the “homegrown effect” is removed so merch would be calculated as being from your country and not as a draftee.

I once had a team with 1757 players and was $25,835,360 in debt. This is not that team. Join the Discord group open to anyone, but especially for USA managers to improve your club or get involved with the U21 and NT programs (https://discord.gg/cKpNkt2).

It's been covered by the moderators in the forums before. (No, I don't remember where.)

You don't get the homegrown boost for buying back your old player. You even lose it if you put your player up for sale and buy him back yourself, unsatisfied with the bids. Obviously, if you put a player up for sale and no one bids on him, you're fine.

I think the point is, a player who has transferred is no longer homegrown. It has to be the easiest way to program it.

I remember the same, but not where I read it. I will try to find it.

There is an acheivement for buying back a draftee after selling him.

When a player has been on the transfer list and bought (back or not) he does not appear as a home grown player for the salary tax. That is 100% sure.

For the merchandizing issue, i could not tell. The draftee I bought back was the center piece of my team. And i've been always with an above average mechandize.

Edit : I realize that my second paragraph is not clear:
Selling a trained player and buying him back rather than actually selling him==> the player disappears from the home grown players for the salary tax.
Selling and buying him back later on ==> same thing.
Putting on sell a trained player and not selling him (without any bidder), does not change its status as a home grown player for the salary tax.

The easiest way to program it would be to have a homegrown tag.

That tag at some point should be attached for players you bought after the draft and kept forever, but that is beyond this discussion. In any case if the tag does exist it should be actually quite simple to stick it back to a player you drafted: it's just a quick check needed when a transfer goes through.

Programically they probaly just compare the id of a team which drafted the player to the current team it. It would be the easiest way. No additional tags needed.

But you would run the ID check for Merch bonus every time then. It doesn't make sense. Maybe it's calculated on an aggregate basis by team on the daily update.

Yes, you would do, but it is just one quick if..then.. comparison; The other way around is just to see if the player had ever been transferred. But they both are the same difficulty. Even if you would add a tag "homegrown" it still would require same if...then.. comparison to calculate. Having in mind creators lazyness, i am pretty sure its like 90 % the way i decribed, the team id.
