I put a player as starter, so he can play the whole game as a backup and play just 3 minutes?

When u use let coach decide and ur reserve player is much better than ur starter , then ur coach will set him as a starter

Try leaving the starter position blank, so set the player only as a backup and reserve. When I do this, my players are almost guaranteed to get 48 minutes.
