That means You forgot to check your team record in all leagues for D IV, before scraping your squad.

Few of the teams with the best record in their League lvl get to promote regardless of winning the title or not.

The lower league lvll the more opening spots that are available to promote with wining the title.

Not even sure where I'd check that.

Anyway the bonus means I just made a big arena upgrade, got out of the last bit of debt... and hopefully can snake a few old fogies and discarded rookies and make something of a squad and avoid relegation (though from the looks of it probably not... well, maybe I'll do good in the cup and BBB.)
