I can't answer with regards to the tactics or rotation... but the reason the new player did not play was because you are in the "playoffs" (albeit relegation playoffs) and the player was not eligible. You may have noticed that he was highlighted in purple.

Nice !! Then I will try to avoid placing injured players for games. I guess there is still a lot to learn before i can win my first match ! = )
