Oh ho ho.
What a week to start things off. A few very good games were scheduled to start things off and a few cracking games were a result!
Earls vs Rooks
The match of the round: Baxter Bogans VS High School Drop-outs
A sad start to the Bogans in the new TEA CUP after going down to HSDOs 107-108. After an early lead to the Bogans, the Drop-outs decided to come clawing back to make for an exciting finish!
Key stats-
The Bogans had a FG% of 39.4 which needs to be improved for him to win a few games.
HSDOs had a very good 36% shooting from distance when baskets were hard to come by.
Bogans had 60 rebounds and HSDOs had 64, giving not many advantages on the boards to HSDO.
Monkey Business VS Vios Violationers
Who predicted this? Vios got out to a big lead going into the third looking sure to win. Then, in the fourth, Monkey Business started to fire as many 3s as he could chew, putting a lot of pressure on the Violations. It wasn't enough though and Monkey Business went down 101-105.
Key stats-
Vios had 15 more rebounds than Monkey and seemed to have a big impact on the game.
Monkey had a solid 50% 3FG shooting but just wasn't enough.
Vios big men had a combined 74% FG shooting.
Screaming Eagles VS Zazzocalypse
The Eagles were off to a flier in the first quarter and looked to dominate all game. Zazzocalypse then came back and took the lead in the second. Zazzo went on to improve his lead in the third. The Eagles looked to have a little fight left in the fourth but it was too late. What a perfect game. With a final score of 111-121, it was fairly close.
Key stats-
Zazzo's PG Tonko Švorinic had 10 assists which helped his big men score a lot easier.
The Eagles had 25 fouls which is way too many.
Paweł Rot from the Eagles is the only rebounder for them.
Hobos VS The Dons
Hobos were off to a slow start as they always do by staying at a constant 3 point loss in the first half. Hobos then fired in the third to completely dominate the game and steal it from The Dons. In the fourth nothing changed and Hobos went home with the victory. With a 120-110 score line, it was a close game in the end but the ratings suggest a bigger margin should have happened.
Key stats-
Hobo's Marnix Verhoeven big man had a good 80% FG shooting.
The Dons gave away 10 rebounds which was a big difference in the end.
Hobos top scorers are SG and C, The Dons top scorers are SG and SF.
VCut VS Chumunga
A very early lead to V-Cut in the first, second and third gave them a lead which would win them the game. With Chumunga only winning the fourth, you can say it was disappointing. With a final score of 95-80, it wasn't a day for the Earls.
Key stats-
V-Cut had four players who looked like they could get it in the basket.
Chumunga had 39% FG shooting.
Enrique Ruiz del Arco was three assists off a triple-double.
CROCKERS VS amos rogues
There was never a game here and was always a blow out. Only Crockers, Crockers, Crockers. Crockers dominated all game. With a score of 144-42, that's a big win.
Key stats-
Crockers had 81 boards.
Somehow Noel McCauley from the rogues scored more than 10 points.
With only three players on a team, there was no doubt.
Rooks vs Rooks
Vis Maior VS Hadders Heros
Vis Major lead in the first and looked to maybe a sneak a win. In the second quarter, things were very close with only Vis Major only scoring one more point than Hadders in the quarter. Hadders smacked Vis Major in the third and looked to finally put some authority into the game. Closing out the last, the score ended up being 117-111.
Key stats-
Hadders had 14 more boards than Vis Major.
Vis Major had 41 assists.
With 6 more fouls to Vis Major, someone needs anger management classes.

Earls vs Earls
shepparton shooters VS West Coast Steel
WCS started strong and ended up strong. Winning all quarters, looked to only smack the shooters around. With only five men for shapparton, and the wrong tactics...things were never looking good for them. The shooters were lucky to get away with 85-122.
Key stats-
WSC's points came mainly from Abdul Jaffery with 32 points.
The shooters managed to grab 4 more rebounds.
Phuoc Nguyên, WSC has a Nguyên.

Round 2 - Full Review
Game 1:
V-Cut vs HSDO
- In the 1st game of the week we started off with two Rooks battling for superiority. HSDO managed to get out of the blocks better of the two, pulling away to an early 11 point lead. VCut not to be bullied knuckled down and battled back to tie up the first quarter at 27 a piece. The 2nd was another hard fought quarter with both slightly dropping off the pace of the 1st quarter and HSDO sneaking a 3 point lead of a nice 3 pointer from SG Forbes on the buzzer. The 3rd quarter was definitely the straw that broke the camels back with HSDO teaming up nicely to score another 27 points, while VCut only managed 18 points from their 3 main scorers. Defence went out the window for the last quarter as both teams piled on 34 points each. A late injury to VCut PF Ruiz del Arco didn't affect the outcome as the game was already wrapped up with 1 minute to go. A solid victory for one of the comps favourites and for VCut things don't any easier this week against Baxter Bogans.
End Score: 102-114
Stats:
HSDO (SG) Forbes top scored for the game with 35pts shooting 50% from the field and an accurate 14-15fs. Next for the winner was (PF) Mocini who added 32pts at 67% and also helped himself to 17reb (6 off). (C) Sensitivo also deserves a mention for his 18pts and 17reb. For VCut it was (PG) Keudell who lead his side with 24pts and 10ast, being the only double for the losers. (SF) Dezolt managed 21pts at 62% accuracy while (SG) Mouaffak's night ended early, fouling out after 38 minutes of court time with 17pts, 6reb & 5ast.
MOTM: Simone Mocini
Game 2:
Vis Maior vs WC Steel
- Game 2 was the first Rooks vs Earls match up of the round with both teams being fairly well matched up. WC Steel had something to prove after recent publications incorrectly stated his side lacked talent. The Steel came out hot, pulling out to a 9 point lead before VM tightened up and pulled back the margin, to take the lead after an 11-0 run. The pace in the 2nd quarter somehow picked up as both teams continued their shoot out (both teams hitting 7 triples each). Things even got a little physical after a flagrant foul by WCS (PG) Shaoguang sent VM (PG) Leon Gloxin to the showers early into the 2nd. Losing their general clearly hurt VM and WCS off the back of league leading scorer Jaffery (SG), who lit up the stadium with a 20pt quarter. The 3rd slowed right down and VM managed to reduce the lead by 4pts though TO were clearing a factor (5 coming from fill in (PG) Rigobert. Each team lost a player in the 4th due to fouls (Rigobert and Samaniego) and the shoot out began once again. VM (SG) Mulvey worked hard to keep his team in it but WCS main scorer Jaffery also stepped up his offense with a strong last quarter to lead his side to a commanding victory. No doubt this win should silence any doubters of this side from the West!
End Score: 124-137
Stats:
I did mention these teams matched up well and with both team's three main scorers all finishing with 40+, 28 & 18 it says it all. WCS main man finished up with 40pts at 54%, including 6-9 3pt. (SF) Samaniego though fouling out after 28min still managed 28pts at 58%. Harrison "I can play anywhere" Camilleri at (PF) hit 18pts, 13reb, 6stl, 4blk & 3ast while (C) Sirocchi doubled up with 16pts & 17reb. VM (SG) Mulvey top scored for the game with 41pts at 74%, including 7-10 3pt, along with 7reb & 6ast. (SF) Zubieta dropped 28pts and (PF) Marcum managed 18pts with 13reb.
MOTM: Harrison Camilleri

Game 3:
Shepparton Shooters vs Vio's Violationers
- Next up we had another cross conference match up with SS looking to bounce back after their first round defeat and VV intending to back their solid start to the season. This game went at a much slower pace compared to the first two games of the round. VV worked hard on the boards and got nothing easy even though a 8pt lead was theirs to finish the quarter. The 2nd continued much the same as the first with VV working away and keeping the SS shooters from finding their range from beyond the arc. SS only managing 1-9 3pt at half time. At half time the lead had blown out to 16pts and things began to look doubtful for the Shooters. The coach must have delivered a rocket at half times as the Shooters came out with a new found belief to take the 3rd 22-19. The Violationers weren't out of gas though and proved this by closing out the final quarter with a consistent 21pts to 17. This turned out to be a low scoring game and not a blow out by any means but a win is a win and a loss is a loss.
End Scores: 64-81
Stats:
VV (PF) Bozo Vasilic backed up his first round performance with another stand out game, scoring 22pts, 25reb & 6ast. (C) Rowlands supported Bozo as he is accustomed to doing with a 18pt, 17reb double. (SG) Igelborg deserves mention for holding his starting opponent to a miserly 4pts and 0-1 3pt. The Shooters really only had two players deserving of mention. (PF) Rocasolano his team's best with 17pts, 12rebs and (SF) Viojan who managed 16pts, 16reb but shooting at a woeful accuracy of 26% including 1-7 3pt.
MOTM: Bozo Vasilic
Game 4:
Screaming Eagles vs Hadders Heros
- Again we have two Rooks battling for supremacy and this game would have to be considered for GOTR honours with only 3pts separating the teams at the final buzzer. Hadders Heros battled to an early lead which was pegged back mid way through the 2nd as SE stole the lead at the 3:28 min mark. HH then fought back to regain the lead to go into the break with only a 3pt lead. The tug of war continued in the 3rd with the lead changing back and forth 6 times with HH just holding on to their lead by 1pt heading into the last. In the final quarter the lead changed hands another 8 times before the SE consolidated a lead which they managed to hold onto for the final 3:48min of the quarter. Hadders will be disappointed with his sides shooting at 41%fg and 32%3pt against Mitch's lads going 44%fg and 38%3pt. A great battle none the less and one that would have had both managers on the edge of their seats.
End Scores: 111-108
Stats: SE (PG) Stevens lead the way with 29pts, 7ast & 6reb well supporter by his entire starting 5. (SG) Wahlhult knocked down 26pts and dished out 8ast while (SF) Druttmark hit 19pts, 8ast & 7reb. (C) Heyvaert added 14pts, 4blk as well as dominating the boards with 23reb, with a little help from (PF) Rot who went 15pts & 15reb for nice double. For Hadder's boys it was (SF) Thornton who lead with 27pts, 5ast & 6reb.(SG) Vahey shot 17pts at 54% including 2-3 3pt, also grabbing 8ast and 4ast. The final mention goes to (PF) Carvalhos who managed his sides only double with 12pts and 17reb.
MOTM: Francis Stevens

Game 5:
Hobos vs Chumunga
- This was the first match up between two Earls for the round. Both teams played exactly the same tactics and both came to shoot the lights out! The first quarter turned out to be a decent are wrestle between two evenly matched sides. Chumunga found range from downtown and hit 5-9 in the 1st while Hobos managed only 2-9. Surprisingly only 1 point separated the teams at the 1st break. Hobos turned the tables in the 2nd shooting 4-8 3's while Chumunga hit only 2 of 10. This time Hobos lead by 1pt going in to half time. Hobos then put the hard yards, in to add another 8 points to their lead before the final break. Unfortunately for Hobos Chumunga weren't even nearly done, piling on a massive 44 points to 24 to win by 11. An amazing last quarter come back for the winners and a very demoralizing loss for the Fannyman. End Scores: 106-117
Stats:
The two main standouts for Chumunga were (PG) Koneth and (SG) Nicholson both scoring huge numbers, 42pts & 35pts respectively, Koneth shooting 8-16 3pt attempts. (SF) Bokgård helped out with 23pts, 9reb & 6ast while (C) Sultan ripped down a game high 22reb. For Hobos (SF) Chaturvedi top scored with 29pts plus added 7reb & 6ast. (PG) Desgastell put up similar numbers with 23pts, 7reb, & 8ast while (C) Verhoeven put up a nice double with 16pts & 17reb. (PF) Iracusta pulled down 20reb but failed to impact on the scoreboard.
MOTM: Micha Koneth
Game 6:
Amos Rogues vs Zazzocalypse
- Next up was another battle between two Earls, this time the rebuilding Rogues suffered a crushing defeat to the Zazz. One might have thought a fellow Earl might have taken it easy on his conference leader but it wasn't to be so. Zazz put up big numbers and gave no easy baskets to the 3 rookies holding the Rogues together. The end result, a 106 point obliteration. Hopefully we'll see some new names in the coming weeks so the Rogues don't have to cop this week after week.
End Scores: 36 - 142
Stats:
For Zazz the points and game time were shared out pretty evenly so pretty much everybody got a turn. (PG) Švorinic top scored with 23pts shooting 50% from the field as well as beyond the arc. (SG) Villarreal added 20pts along with 6reb, 8ast & 5stl while (PF) put down 20pts, 23reb, 6ast and 3blk. Rogues (SF) Nair managed to knock up a tally of 20pts but hit only 7 of 30 attempts. He came close to a double falling short by just 1 rebound with 9.

Game 7:
Crockers vs The Dons
- The Crockers moved to the top of the league ladder after a strong win against fellow Rook, The Dons. This was a game that never looked in doubt, though The Dons can hold their heads up for not giving in. The winners may be guilty of showing some compassion in the final quarter, unlike a certain team under the Earls banner. Life won't get any easier with their next game up against the current number 2 team in the league and a team unlikely to show any mercy.
End Scores: 124-103
Stats:
The Crockers were well lead by (SF) Balaji knocking down 29pts at just under 50% and getting his hands on 9reb. Next up (PF) Kirk nailed 25pts and doubled up with 14reb who was closely followed by (PG) Seman with 24pts. Seman appeared to be spraying shots all over the place tonight, not even once managing to find the hole from beyond the arc. Luckily his passing wasn't off though, finding his team mates 8 times for the assist. Dons (SF) Plasier top scored the game with an impressive 39pts shooting 5-11 3pt and grabbing 10reb. (SG) Ots managed a respectable 23pts, unfortunately his night ended short with an injury. The courtside Doctor advised it was nothing serious and he should bounce back for the next game just fine.
MOTM: Forbes Kirk
Game 8:
Baxter Bogans vs Monkey Business
- The final game of the round was the most anticipated game, featuring the two big dogs from the Earls. Both teams looking to bounce back after difficult, close losses to Rooks last week. A fantastic defensive effort from MB allowed them to get out to a 4pt lead by the end of the 1st. BB struggling to find range from 3pt land missing a total off 11 3's in the 1st. MB (SG) Chaudier rubbed salt into the wound by hitting 2-3 on his own. Chaudier went missing in the 2nd, while BB (SF) turned it on with 12pts, allowing his side to enter half time with a handy 7pt lead after an 11pt turn around. Both teams gave as good as they got in the 3rd scoring 30-32, MB shortening the deficit to 5pts. The crowd filled stadium were on the edge of their seats in anticipation of a thrilling battle in the final quarter. MB now gaining a reputation for blazing 4th quarter finishes, piled on 35pts to 24 to win the game by 6pts. This now has the highly touted Baxter Bogans currently sitting at the opposite end of the ladder as to that which was predicted. One would think this horror run can't last forever though after a tough draw to start the season.
End Scores: 103-109
Stats:
MB (PG) Chaudier top scored for his side with 26pts shooting 62.5% beyond the arc with 5 triples and also dishing out 9ast. (SF) Condeixa contributed with 25pts & 8reb while (SG) Guillestegui fouled out in the 4th with 20pts. (C) Coffey put up the only double for the game with 14pts, 11reb and 4blks. Not to be outdone by his direct opponent BB (PG) Lopinš hit a game high 28pts but shooting a woeful 14% from outside. (SG) Duong chipped in with 23pts, 6ast & 5reb also shooting equally as bad from outside at 14% and 27%fg. Reckong the coach will have these lads doing basic shooting drills all week. Finally (C) Rollán monstered 21reb failed to make double figures on the scoreboard.
MOTM: Stéphane Chaudier
