How do SF fit into this? should they be trained as guards or bigs in your example? Maybe you should include a section just for them.

I have a player training for the National team, and I want to train him as a SG and thats been the goal all along, but he's so well rounded I wonder whether he'd make a SF instead.

I think i'm on the right path, but I guess I'm just looking for a little validation

If the argument was still out there, this should close the book on the benefits of training a U21 player:
10 of the 17 players on the team are in the finals of their league.
14 of the 17 players on the team made the playoffs in their league.

And one of the 3 that missed was brian who wasn't even trying to win.

Well the reason I didn't include SFs in this is because SF is a very specialized position. We have LI SFs, RnG SFs, and more basic SFs like Velasco. It would be difficult for me to give you an idea of what an NT SF would look like as far as minimum skills etc etc. Giving you an idea of what a U21 SF would look like would be even more difficult.

The guidelines, which I probably need to update, were intended to give people a very basic idea of what we are looking for in a guard or big at the U21 or NT level.

If you are interested in creating an SF or a guard with some inside skills for the U21 or NT, I would post about your player on the offsite forum, where you can get plenty of advice, and we can compare the progress of your player to other similar players: (http://s3.zetaboards.com/BuzzerBeater_USA_NT/index/)

If you haven't signed up for the offsite and are planning to do so, please send me a bb-mail when you do stating what e-mail you used to sign up, so that I can approve your account.

EDIT: I made some changes to the guidelines, mostly minor changes to skill minimums and maximums, as well as potential minimums. Also included a short section discussing FTs and Stamina.

I've made the playoffs 9 straight seasons, and I've never trained a U21 player.

Yes, but nobody has said you couldn't make the playoffs if you don't train a U21 player. The argument is that training a U21 player can be detrimental to your team and these stats are shown to disprove that theory. Therefore your point isn't really relevant to the argument.
