Gatlin was suspended for 4 years for using steroids. I don't know...should it be a life ban?

Part of what went wrong in baseball is that the game was "benefiting" from all the home run records falling. So I think management and media sort of looked the other way. I can't believe all these reporters and coaches didn't know...that's impossible. But all you'd hear about is the ball being juiced and silly stuff like that....

You don't think Gatlin, or USA sprinting has benefitted from Gatlin using steroids?
The guy didn't even really miss a beat financially during the stretch either because he kept getting to go onto "Pros Vs. Joes".

8 years later, "not on the juice" and I am to believe he can still run at a 9.78 100m clip, almost as fast as Yohan Blake? less than .20 seconds slower than Usain Bolt?

Honestly, I don't know what Gatlin's financial situation was...I'm not sure he was making a lot off running while he was suspended. Also, I think its impossible to say what he'd have run without the steroid use 4 years ago. I'm also a little skeptical of all the sprinter in the 100M races...I wouldn't be surprised if any of them tested positive at some point.

I'm actually more in the camp that says all steroid users should get lifetime bans....although I'm curious how many accidental and inadvertent positive tests they have. Not that this is what's happening in most cases...but if somebody does take the wrong supplement and tests too high or positive for something, do they deserve a lifetime band?

Melky Cabrera caught today in baseball... admited straight up he was taking PEDs.
is anyone surprised he was? 6 years pro, career .265 BA, this season, hitting .360 by itself. 0 all-stars before this season. This season got all-star nod over McCutchen (who should be MVP consideration), and was the allstar game MVP.

50 game suspension... as if that discourages players... I agree, should be lifetime bans.

A courius doping case, i just remember is the one from the german Table tennis player Otcharov who had a positiv test for Clenbuternol after he come back from a tournament in china. He offered the Nada and the german anti doping foundation, enough indication that he got cootamined through eaten meat in china.

I believe the point in his favour was:
- they give it sometimes to the animals in china
- there was also a very small concentration of clenbuternol in the blood of his teammate Timo Boll
- clenbuternol makes you stronger, but the muscle also get a tremor which is contra productive for a tt player
- a hair analysys showed that he doesn't use it long term, which is needed to get an effect out of it.

Another courious case was a german runner who claimed someone poisoned his tooth paste, but he got fined for it. And i don't think so many people believed him. I believed there was also controversial betwen the national and the international doping agencys about this case, probadly you can google for dieter Baumann. if you can translate it, this one is probadly quite intresting to read -> http://www.faz.net/aktuell/sport/doping-dieter-baumann-ch..., since there was two different judgement in this case and a ban of nearly all german runners involved in this case.

Ok. I could live with 4 year bans. Melky Cabrera... see you in 2016 August, have some respect for the game, and the people that play the game the right way. 4 years no MLB paycheck.

I could live with that.

As others have alluded to, weed and alcohol are more common in the NBA. There's been more reports of NBA players using that than PED's.
